What I'm doing for the skating rink does allow me to still use it when the invisible swatch has been chosen, yes. As for how much work it is, maybe there's an easier way and I just haven't found it? I did try altering the shadow mesh so the rink didn't cast a shadow, but it borked the animation and made the sim skate in the air. This would be fun if that were the effect I was going for, but it wasn't. With the skating rink, changing the shaders to PhongAlpha and adding a 100% black alpha channel to the diffuse textures did the trick, but then I had issues with the sun shadow and the frost and snow effects, thus all the tweaking to the settings. So, I guess whether you'd have to mess with things in the Warehouse or not would depend on what extras the mesh contains--a skating rink is a bit more complicated than an OMSP, after all. You know, I have to wonder if EA made some changes in an update not too long ago. KitKat had made some OMSPs a long time ago that she could interact with when invisible, but later tried to make more and found she could not make them work. Once the OMSP was invisible, there was no selecting it or anything. The same thing happened to me. Tried again later, problem gone. I could interact with my OMSP while they were invisible. Maybe EA fixed the problem in an update? Who knows. *shrugs* I have some OMSPs made by Sweetmint that have a tiny little heart shape that is visible on the top of the mesh--the shape was added to the alpha channel of the texture--and this too, (The tiny little visible heart) made it so that you can interact with the OMSP. This is what Cidira is talking about when she wrote, "...leave only a tiny visible element." It's an option, I guess.

What type of object don't have a object catalog? It's literally the file that control name, description, price and everything else... BTW, if you find a way to show special effects with that, please tell me, I still want to make an invisible object that are a portal made of magic sparkles...
There are many Build Mode items that don't have an Object Catalog resource. In this case, it's a roof pattern and a roof trim I'm working with. Your best bet for the invisible portal is probably to make it invisible, or near-invisible, without using this method -- just actually make the texture transparent, or leave only a tiny visible element. Yes, it'll be harder for people to manipulate in Build Mode because it won't suddenly be a big fully visible object... but it'll work. did you ever figure it out for build mode? im trying to make an invisible fence

I tried but could never get it to work properly.

I've never tried with fences because true fences were too much work to clone at all at the time. If I were going to try now, the very first thing I'd try is probably the trick to make it visible in build mode but not live mode, and the second thing would be a transparent texture.
