As long as your bump and spec have the same width to height ratio as the diffuse image, the absolute size of the image will not matter.

I think it would be useful to post this info in Mods & CC Technical Discussions forum so SimGuruModSquad could see what they've done to the game :D. As far as I know they appreciate if players post information about patch glitches or difficulties with the game after update.

I was playing with the RLES Spec last night, after following a Tutorial about the Spec and Spec Mask....it is AMAZING!!!! i was trying to fix my Funny Hat...would post a pic but it is Adult Humor. By adding-in the Texture area on the Spec and playing with the Opacity, you get some REALLY COOL metal Chrome on the entire Hat. The Original Pink color turns into a really cool looking Bronze-type metal chrome. Is there any way of adding RLES to an Object? Or, does it already have to be in the Original File....hmmmm....(?) EDIT: The Hat still looks a little Funny, but my CAS Hat Texture Size is Larger than the RLES Size, i think you are supossed to keep those files the same size (?), probly' a Texture issue.

I haven't come across an object that doesn't have one. All objects have two particular DST images apart from the main textures. One bump map, and the other specular. It's fairly easy to know which one is what when you first clone the item since you're going to see the grey silhouette of the item in the bump, and either pink-ish or green-ish depending on the object, for the specular. It works just like the RLES for clothing, as far as range of colors goes. But it's a simple 1 texture with alpha type of dds. Here orange quickly describes how to go into the warehouse. It also works for checking which string refers to specular or normal (bump)

You just toss in a Layer and change the Opacity....don't get me wrong, i used to dig through the Studio...still do to change Object Shaders to Full-Bright, (That works again...stopped for a while.). OMG! i just said that i LIKE RLES.....Hell hath Frozen Over!

Yeah, I wish objects had a .rles too...which is sort of ironic because it took awhile to decipher the .rles because it's so unusual and during that time period I was cursing EA for sticking us with it. Now that Studio can edit them I love that thing though. If you want to see a really cool .rles look at the one the space alien garments have. The object spec, like inabadromance said, is just a plain old 4 channel image (DST) that isn't nearly as fun.

Remember the Shadow on the Picture removal?....it's been awhile...ha! THERE HAS TO BE A WAY! Off to Experiment....

If I am reading this thread correctly, does this mean we can use a 256x256 size bump for a 512x512; just as long as they are the same proportions? or does it mean that we now have to have 512x512 for 512x512? PS. Steven, I glad you figured out what was wrong

If your bump is in the same proportion you can make it smaller if you want. The same goes for the specular image. If your diffuse is 512 x 512 there's no reason your bump cannot be 256 x 256 or even smaller as long as it's square

This is ironic, I havn't yet updated with the latest patch but while taking a break from the new stuff I decided to clear out my DL folder and check what was causing monumental lag. I found I had a lot of items that had bumps that were the wrong size and UV maps that were really strange. I removed a lot and fixed the stuff I liked and it seems a bit better. I have had objects with bump maps half the size of the texture map that work but recently they have been showing through. I am sure I stuck to the texture-bump ratio but I will check my older objects for this and replace them if I need to. Steve good to see you are still experimenting 8-) Oh re the specs I love playing with those to make shine and other effects I really must make some more objects that use them the effects are very cool when I get it right.

freeasabird Yea you know I wonder if sometimes this stuff gets translated weird at some point by something because I have had a couple times when I KNOW that I made something 512x512 and then it was causing problems and I checked it and it had a 512x513 size! I purposefully made the file 512x512 (that is pretty much my standard size) but somehow a pixel got added in somewhere.
