Hi sims4loveuniverse, Photoshop will open .png images natively. It needs a plugin to open .dds images. Make sure the image you're exporting is in .png format.

If Photoshop won't open a .dds my bet is it is because you do not have the .dds plugin installed in the right place. Photoshop requires a plugin installed to open .dds. You do not need to use .dds for Sims 4 if you are using Sims 4 Studio to make your recolors. Instead of exporting the image as a .dds just export it as a .png. Photoshop is able to open .png images with no plugin.
I'm not sure what you mean when you say it is not an image. Photoshop won't open files that aren't in an image format (.dds, .png, .jpg, etc.).

If you're using Studio you won't need the plugin. Studio will import .png for all images no matter what you're making

Ive never got .png and photoshop to work with the alpha (Im not the only one) so I always use .dds
To answer your question from further up, the plugin needs to be installed, it will install itself in the correct location.

sims4loveuniverse I encountered similar glitch when I tried installed DDS plugin made for Creative Cloud version. If you don't see it, most likely either it wasn't installed correctly or you need to find and try another version of plugin. In my case I searched for older version of plugin and it worked.. Can't provide the link since it was over a year ago. Regarding the problem importing .PNG, can you share your texture in .png and .package so someone can try importing and check on texture?

From what I've read (I don't have Photoshop so I can't test this) if you save as a 24bit png with transparent checked Photoshop will save the png with transparent background (alpha transparency). This isn't true? LINK

It will save the image with transparency fine, but not with an alpha layer

To my knowledge png just doesn't have an "alpha channel". It just saves the image maintaining the transparency just in a different way.. but since the final outcome is the same that's why probably s4s manages to handle it too. i'm old school, i'm just going to keep using dds because i'm used to.. i tried comparing png / dds with a specific texture to see how different the artifacts were. But in that case it was worst using png, so that just settled it for me.
