the alpha. see how the texture is pitch black like i said? now you do all the work in the alpha channel. the darker to grey you go the more transparent and the whiter the more opaque the tat will be on the skin. the shadows you see is really the transparent parts of the tat on the skin. it's pretty tricky to do which is why when i make black ink tats i just keep them 1 transparency :P thank you X, I understand what you mean. I tried working with the alpha channel but I'm having the following problems: As you can see, apparently, my alpha channel looks fine right? And since it looks fine on S4S I thought it was okay, but when I entered to test in game it doesn't look how it should, I can see the white parts, what did I do wrong? Here's how I saved the file: Also, when I try to use this tattoo on a custom skin it looks faded as you can see in the picture bellow, and I tested another custom tattoo (not made by me) and it works just fine with the custom skin. What would be the problem here?

Your image layer probably looks something like this: (With the white areas possibly being just transparent and the red bits being red obviously.) The reason why you see some white in your tattoo in-game is because there are some areas where the white in your alpha layer isn't fully filled in your image layer (it might overlap the image in the image layer by a few pixels in places for example). If there is nothing under the white in the alpha layer that area will come out looking white in-game. This is especially finnicky with 'shaded' areas of tattoos because they might already be semi-transparent in the image layer. The easiest way I've found to ensure this is not a problem is to just fill out a large area around your tattoo in the image layer in the color that you want. For example for your tattoo I would have the image layer looking something like this: (excuse the blockiness, I only have access to paint at the moment) This ensures that all the areas under the white in the alpha layer are filled out completely in the image layer. Since only the bits under the white in the alpha layer are shown in-game it should come out looking the way you want.

as zarubi said the image layer has to be solid colors. all the work for tats is done mainly in the alpha layer. i can't do this though psp doesn't use alpha layers

thank you zaburi and X. I do have a solid black background on my tattoos, I guess my mistake was to think that I could leave the white part in the skull and bird, when in reality I couldn't, the alpha layer doesn't do all the work, meaning removing the white from the image. Any ideas on the skin overlay issues?

if you use tats on skin overlays they either don't show up or they get that faded effect don't ask me why. remember if you use white the tat won't blend into skin tone it'll just show up as a solid color on the skin. to make it blend and get them shadows you need to use grey colors.

Hi! I follow the tutorial and I actually did some pretty good tattoos for my sim. Worked well but when I put a sock (a made a tattoo for my sim leg) it shows over. Anyone knows how to solve this problem? Also, I want to delete some of the tattos I did from the .dds file, but when I erase them in the photoshop, just turns white in the sim body on sims4studio. Can someone tell me how to erase them without having to do all the tattoos again from skratch? Or this is not possible? xD Thanks for the tutorial maker, helps me a lot. <3 I'll send a image of how the tattoo show over the clothing. <<<<<<<--------- Right there.

Hi I managed to make all the tattoos i wanted into one package (as Im doing a famous person's tattoos) and it all looks perfect on sims4 studio. After i saved it as a package file, I added it into my mods folder. I open my game, and the mods list thingy popped up, with my tattoos on the list, however, when i went to CAS i couldnt find them anywhere! Please help! I have sims 4 studio (joy), and when I started the tattoo i clicked the create CAS standalone, as there is no a recolouring button.

Hi ugarit, welcome to Studio forums. The CAS Standalone is the CAS recoloring button and for tattoos that's the right button to select. If you post your .package I can take a look at it.

Hi nickst3r, I don't use Photoshop so I cannot help much with the alpha question. What file are you trying to open that won't open in Photoshop?

Hi nickst3r, I don't use Photoshop so I cannot help much with the alpha question. What file are you trying to open that won't open in Photoshop? You know when you export the tattoo thats the file I'm trying to open in photoshop unless I'm not understanding the tutorial properly

nickst3r You need this Nvidia DDS plugin to be able to open DDS files on photoshop as for the alpha channel, click on the Channels tab, then on this little icon: and then choose "New Channel" and click on "Okay"
