Sorry if this has been asked before, I really did do a sweep of both this site and google and didn't quite see the answer...
Okay, so I've started meshing, and have a mesh I'd like to upload to my site and share recolors of.
What is the process?
What I mean is, do I always have to import the mesh to anything I want to recolor FOR that mesh to include it with the same recolor file for people to download and use in game? Or do I somehow have the mesh be a standalone and people have to download that separately in order to get recolors on a separate download to show in game?
Sorry, the last time I meshed was for Sims 2, and I hardly even remember that process, lol; I believe it was that once a mesh was in your game, you could just always see any recolors yourself or others had made of that mesh.
Also, how do I get my mesh to show up in the selection screen when it comes to choosing a mesh to recolor (alongside the EA meshes)?
Thanks so much in advance.

The answer depends on whether you're doing CAS or objects. If you're doing CAS you can make a recolor that does not include the mesh. If you're doing objects you have to include the mesh but Studio allows you to make a clone of your own object and then add new textures to it. In this way it serves as a recolor that will not require your downloaders to download a second .package for the recolor to work.
To get your item to show up on the clone list make a copy of the .package and paste it into your Documents/Sims 4 Studio/Mods folder. This is a folder Studio uses to add things to the thumbnail list you choose from when selecting your clone. Once that's added, open Studio. If Studio was open when you pasted it into the folder, you will need to close and reopen Studio. If you're doing an object recolor of your own item and you don't want downloaders to have to download two .packages, choose Create 3D mesh under the object button on the front page. Then just do your recolor as usual.

CAS, for now. I made a clothing mesh, and it seems I always have to import the mesh into any EA given mesh I choose to use as the base mesh. I'm just wondering if this is the standard protocol every time I want to recolor a new item for that mesh (to have to import the mesh I made in Blender into each individual file), which means I'd not even have to have a "mesh" section on my site; I'd just have the mesh included in each recolor download.
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer! I'm so excited, I made my first mesh for Sims 4 (toddler inspired, I just had to :D) and I was so lost once it came to the mesh/recolor upload section. No video or written tutorial covers this part, lol.

I see now what you mean. If you're doing any item (CAS or object) recolor, there has to be a mesh in the game files for the recolor to be displayed on. If you want the downloader to be able to just download a CAS recolor (available in your recolor section) that's possible. They would then need to go to your mesh section and download the corresponding mesh or else the recolor won't have anything to be displayed on. Definitely though, you do not have to be importing your mesh into a new recolor .package each time you want to make a recolor of your original new mesh.package. You can just clone your own item as custom content. There's a tutorial HERE that shows how with illustrations.
