so. im at work, super slow day. thought id recolor some walls on my break which is an hour long. thought while id prepare to do so id get S4S and things ill need for said recoloring.
turns out S4S apparently needs to have a gamepath in order to recolor. i have the .package i was going to edit, my S/O found it and put it in dropbox for me before he left for work. but its currently useless if i cant use S4S to extract the .dds and edit it accordingly.
is there no way to bypass the need for the game path to be set? i cant just download sims 4 to my work computer to recolor a wall...thats kind of ridiculous and rather frustrating since this could be something i do on my work breaks. id like to not have to sit and waste my hour break downloading it to my work computer just to be deleted afterwards. def a waste of time. :c
perhaps this could be a thing for the next version of S4S - where if we want to use S4S elsewhere we could. this is puts a halt on my process currently.

Sims 4 Studio requires the game path for several reasons. First, in order for the thumbnail list of clone options to form it needs to see the game files so it can generate the list. Second, in order for the models to show up in the model viewer it needs to pull files out of the game. Third, anything that's referenced inside a .package that doesn't have a corresponding object in the .package needs to get to the game files so it can find the referenced object instance. These Studio functions that require a path to the game files cannot be easily changed and the plans for improvements to Studio do not allow any time to be budgeted for this kind of feature.

You need to give Studio the path to where your game files are.

livyrose11 Your game path can always be found in :documents. For me it is c:users/documents/electronic arts/sims 4

It will not let me choose C:/Program Files(x68)\Electronic Arts\Sims 4 (this is the option it automatically gives me), Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Sims 4 or User\Documents\Electronic Arts\Sims 4.
I don't know where else to look. I do not have an Origin folder, my game doesn't run through Origin.

hortonsamuel My game path S4S uses is: C:\Users\Gebruiker\Documents\Electronic Arts\De Sims 4 (Dutch I am). You do not use the Sims 4 found in Program Files.

I just downloaded the beta and It doesn't let me choose my game path. it says it isnt valid. My game path is in documents electronic arts. Its not in programs. I dont know how to fix this Your games path cannot be in your documents folder. Although there are two references, the first is the oe that shows Sims 4 Documents. This one leads ypu to The documents folder/electronic arts and this is where your mods are stored. The main games path studio requires is the one in your programs file where your Sims 4 game is installed. When you click on settings you have to click on the path down right that says CONFIGURE GAME PATH and you have to point studio to where your game is installed. I hope this video helps out only that it is in Spanish or so You can also check this thread here sims4studio.com/thread/1866/game-file-path-configured
