Hi everyone. I made a simple bed frame mesh a while ago, but didn't bother changing the mattress. Then a bunch of people introduced some lovely separate mattresses for empty bed frames. So obviously I thought "Out with this ugliness!!!" and deleted the mattress from my mesh, so I could enjoy others' beautiful bed covers. This caused a bunch of issues. Weird, stretched, old textures showing in odd places, especially under the bed... I thought maybe just deleting those from warehouse tab will solve the issue. Nope. So I decided to clone something else for the base of my bed frame. Rugs have proven to be unusable, causing some weird graphics glitches, I've cloned 2 rugs to test that, and it just gives the whole object a weird semi-transparent look. Then I cloned some garden rocks, and it worked the best so far, but now my object has no shadow. Also there weren't enough swatches for my textures.
So I guess I'm looking for some advice on what would be a good base object to clone for this specific item. I was thinking a table would have shadows I could edit, but then I would need to get rid of its functionality somehow (otherwise my sims might start leaving their dirty dishes in the bed), and I'm not sure how to do that.
Currently, since my package is cloned from decorative clutter, it doesn't allow any interaction, which is good, because I wouldn't want my sims to sleep on an empty bed frame anyway. But my item has no shadow. I'm a bit tired of all this trial and error, so, does anyone have any suggestions?
Here's what my bed looks like right now. The shadow underneath is actually orangemittens' mattress' shadow, and my bed is a witch, or a vampire, or whatever weird fantasy thing that doesn't cast shadows!
Also, I would like if you guys shared your experience with cloning for general purposes. It is kind of hard to guess what objects are suitable for making new meshes. Like I said earlier, rugs seems to be a bad idea for anything other than rugs. Some objects work okay but don't have enough swatches included. And some objects, like the bed that I cloned (Discretion Double Bedsystem), have plenty of swatches, but actually use same textures twice or more times for one mesh part. So even though there are 9 swatches, you can only have 4 different bed frame textures.
For now, I'm going to try cloning an ottoman. Seems to have a ton of swatches using just single textures. Although I might need to find a way to get rid of its animations somehow, but I'll worry about it later.
Creating a 3D mesh and mapping sure is a breeze compared to all this trial and error! :P
