So with the announcement of the Sims 4 Cats & Dogs expansion pack, I noticed in the trailer there was a Create a Style/Colour Wheel tool for creating the pets. I was really hoping this would be available to use on our Sims and in Build & Buy mode, but apparently not as confirmed by SimGuruLyndsay's Twitter post. Understandably, I imagine implementing a feature like this with the amount of packs and custom content that's already out there would prove to be difficult. I can only dream lol. Oh well, the expansion pack does look good though! What does everyone think?

I think SimGuruLyndsay should move onto something else.
The Sims4 was released in Late 2014 and has been nothing but, MORE than Awkward on the release of Game EP's and Packs.
°We received Aliens, before Toddlers.
°We received Vampires, before Pets.
°We have Cars that Cruise around on the Streets, (Ugly as Hell...but hey!), no Car Ownership.
°We have Guitars - All Acoustic, No Electric with Amps.
°We have MooSick - No Rock Station.
°°My Ultimate Laugh - We received an Add-On Pack to ADD to the Fitness subliminal message - "Be Fit.".
When the Cross-Dressing Update for Toddlers shows up, Unexpected, and RUINS everyone's CAS Mods...never Forget that last one, Out of the Blue - No Rock Station, but hey - Dress like Sally next Door...ha!
Sims 5....Hopefully, much Better than THIS, "Guru Crew". Rock On!
P.S. - I live 45 minutes from Köln, "Gamescom", i would only go to Laugh @ them. Working seems more Fun this Year. ;°)

I agree that EA seems to have been pretty tone deaf to what players want this time around. Not just in the packs offered, but in the scope of the material in each pack. Players seem tired of frequent tiny packs that add almost nothing to gameplay but a single new object or two with special interactions. They seem willing to sacrifice frequency for depth. As in, people want some game-changing expansion packs like we used to see in previous Sims games and they're will to wait longer between packs if the packs are actually interesting. Packs that offer new places to go, new things to do, new ways for Sims to interact with each other, and clothes/objects that go along with the theme of the new pack. Packs like World Adventures (Sims 3) and University (Sims 2). Sims 4 just isn't keeping up with the bar that was set by previous games. Like the Bowling pack, for example. This was supposed to provide a new place to go and a new thing (one thing but at least something new) to do. But when your Sims get there, they don't interact with each other in a new way. They interact with an object (the bowling lane), and that's about it. This latest pack (Toddlers) seems similar. It doesn't offer any new place to go. It just has a couple new objects for toddlers to interact with. That's a big difference from adding new ways for Sims to interact with each other in new places. Instead, we're still stuck at home surrounded by the same old Sim family just as we were before Toddlers came out (Sims 4 is sort of like a take on the 1950's crossed with Twilight Zone - your Sim can never escape the house/family). When I look at the pack, it just seems like EA is out of ideas and energy. I expect them to add comprehensive stuff that would be impossible for modders to do. Yet, in this pack, for example, the playing in a container full of balls things was already done by a modder, as were slides in several sizes, and a trampoline (all by Necrodog HERE). EA already lost me with the stupid Fitness Pack, and this lame offering isn't tempting me to go back to buying each pack (don't worrry - Studio will update for it anyway). That said, the pets do look super-cute to me, and I'm hoping EA can turn things around a bit. Of course, that won't happen if they follow the Pets pack with another extremely long series of small, lackluster, boring stuff packs that have one or two uninteresting new things.

In comparison to previous Sims games, the packs for the Sims 4 are lacklustre. I think they made a huge mistake by introducing their Game Packs. I understand they're supposed to be a hybrid of an expansion and a stuff pack, but I don't recall anyone having issues with buying either an expansion or a stuff pack in the past for their previous games.
I agree, EA set the bar considerably high, especially with the Sims 3 and a lot of people were expecting the same thing with the Sims 4. I think to a lot of people (myself included), the packs are only worth buying if there is a sale on. Most Simmers just don't want to pay full price for mediocrity. There have been some packs I have thoroughly enjoyed, City Living and Vampires are my favourites and I felt they had a great amount of CAS, B&B and game play content, so it begs the question as to why there so many inconsistencies between packs.
With the Cats & Dogs expansion, I am excited to see there is a new world, and of course new interactions for Sims and their pets. I also thought it was a great idea to include a veterinary career option too, but I also get the impression that this is the kind of pack that I'm gonna play for a couple hours, then never go back to it again.
Since we're getting one expansion per year now, EA will no doubt try to make up for the lack of expansions with their game and stuff packs. I don't mind either of those, but they need to change their approach and give Simmers something they have asked to see in their game. I liked the project they recently put forward where the community got to vote on the pack, which I think is awesome for the Sims community and they should do more of that.

I am not interested in pets -_- But the career, yeah, that could be fun.
I don't understand why they don't remake all the existing careers the way they created the new ones.
It is a simple Idea, but it would work. I had a lot of fun with the scientist career. Detective can sure be fun but I don't want to load another map every 2 investigations steps, so in the end I don't like it as much. I have not been far with the doctor career, but it was already quite fun with the diagnostics. There is a world of new interactions and ideas to explore with the interactive careers. I don't understand why they don't see it. Also I miss the burglars all in all. I don't get why there are none in the sims 4. They added unexpected animation in the house. And for the criminal career, it could be so much fun to steal things from neighboring houses. A neighbor you don't like, bam, steal his things. You could have interactions between careers that way.
I mean, it's not so hard to come up with ideas is it? -_-

In the Trailer it does say you can become a vet and run a clinic, so I assume this must be a new interactive career.

Well what can one expect from a 'stuff' pack, really. It's in the name; it adds stuff. New gameplay starts from $19.99. I'm kind of in the same camp as a lot of other fans, though. They could very well drop stuff packs entirely and include such things in bigger packs. Oh well.

darkhorus - They won't drop "stuff" packs because there are enough people out there whom buy them. (Not me) Well of course they won't lol It's what can be expected from a business, which primary goal is to make money, after all. One can dream though, right? :D

You make a really good point about the fur paints for the cats and dogs. I don't mind the outfits at all, I love how adorable they are and there will no doubt be plenty of dogs in their hot dog suits going about their business lol. Painting/dying fur though is not my style, I wouldn't do that to my own dog, never mind a virtual one. I'm so confused with EA's focus on things, they prioritised a colour wheel and freehand painting system so you can make a cat multi-coloured even though they knew everyone wanted that kind of customisation for the rest of the game. I don't think I'll ever be over this *sigh*

I am one of those people that are always day dreaming of the Darker side! The silly side the Naughty un pc side of gaming. When I see vanilla sims 4 I see a product that is marketed towards people that are straight down the line upstanding white picket fenced, (9 am to 5 pm I phone owners) pleasant nice people that just enjoy a casual game and put it down between studies and work. But what do unpleasant people like me want...? Mods of course hehe. I got to day dreaming " hmmm I wonder can we now make extra script and animation..maybe borrow some cow plant eating sim code..re mesh a cat .. create a list of unsuitable pets like a tiger, bear, python, crocodile that occasionally gobble u a sim if not fed like 30 lbs of meat per day ect. If you do not witness it they just go missing ....it would be hilarious to me. anyway this is not a begging post..to be honest I have never felt so inspired to learn both how to use blender , the sims mod resources and packs and look at the scripting..I realize its not gonna be easy and far beyond me at the moment. but a fun idea ! Plus come on tiger cubs !

To be honest, the only thing I am excited about when it comes to the new EP is the upcoming pets CC! I just hope it won't be overly complicated to introduce new fur textures and pet eyes.

Okay so I've been playing the new expansion for a few hours now and so far I do like it! I do think they did a pretty good job overall with the pets themselves, there seems to be plenty of breeds and customisation options in CAS which is never a bad thing, I did find myself spending more time than usual in CAS going through all the stuff and I'm pretty pleased with what they've included. I was however expecting a whole lot more stuff for the pets themselves, I just felt like one or two options for pet beds, bowls and toys weren't really enough? It makes me look forward to all the pet CC that will be released.

I don't know how to feel about that EP to be honest. The animals are really cute, they did a great job with them, even though I am a bit disappointed that you can't even select them to have a bit of information about how they feel and such. If I recall correctly, they were not playable in TS2 either, but you could at least select them. There's so many silly moddlet that they could have! I would have love to just see that.
I think a few more traits for them would have been necessary, like, it's good to have a "smart" trait (sorry my game is in french so I'm not sure what word they used in english), but I would have love to have the opposite too. Or a trait for liking or disliking water, making them more prompt to jump into the pool, or make a mess during bath.
I'm a bit disappointed by the world and the objects. The world is a bit too small for me, and I am a bit annoyed by some of the house slot that don't even have a path leading to them. I mean, I understand you don't always have a road leading to your house, but at least a path! BUT, that last part is just a personnal opinion and I'm pretty sure a lot of people like that, so that's only a downer for me I think lol.
There's not enough animal objects either. And the fact that there's not even a dog house? Now that's a shame, really.
I already encountered a few bug, such as the social worker for adopting animal filling my house with transport box and no animal coming out of them, and I had no possibilities to remove them myself. I had to switch the active house and come back for the box to leave. I had to go to the vet, and the never never came.. I had to reload y last save. Also, if one of y house adopt a pet, I can adopt it back from another household after...
So, I really don't know. I guess the EP is fine, but I was honestly expecting more. I guess the fact that we had to wait three year to finally have it made me have higher expectations for it?

Yesterday I spent the day trying to fix my game. I removed all my CC before the update because I read alot of people having problems with that, deleted all my saves and cache. After the update my game was perfect, however after the EP my game was horrible. I tried to repair it from Origin but that didn't fix the problem, I had to delete the entire "The Sims 4" folder (after save my sims of course). That seems it fixed the worse, but the game doesn't work that good anymore unless I play it with the lowest graphics. I have been playing it with ultra graphics always... It hurts.
About the EP itself... Well, I have mixed feelings. The cats and dogs are excelent, but there aren't many options to choose- I was expecing a bit more since there are only cats and dogs. Same with the objects, so I'm a bit disappointed with that. I played a bit and I loved the interactions/animations. I loved to see my toddler hug the cat, and hear the animal purr (obviously was a "affectionate" cat). I didn't see everything and I didn't try to own a vet yet, but as sillyfeather said- The long wait made me expect... more from it.
