I'm not sure where to post this, so I'm putting it in the general chat area. I want to recolour some curtains. unfortunately they all have patterns on them, I have applied a visible layer, selected the area I want to recolour, then desaturated it. Unfortunately the pattern still shows through. I have filled the area with the replacement pattern, but you can still see the original very faintly - it just doesn't look good. I used the overlay setting, and made the coverage 100%. the paint editor I am using is Gimp. I have tried playing with the Hue and saturation but that doesn't seem to work. I also tried to first paint the area with a plain white, but that definitely didn't work. Can anyone come up with suggestions on how to eradicate the pattern.

I would try to put a white layer over the original pattern and have the new layer remain normal. Then I would select the area you want to recolor and only copy that area into a new layer above the white one. I think it should help hiding the old pattern better.
