Hello! I have some problems to bleach the existing clothes to recolor them. First they are not white after bleaching, it is allways a middle dark grey. Then I brighten them, but they lost a most of the texture like seams and shadows. When I raise the contrast, the clothes become vera unnatural bright and shiny.
edit: They loose the texture after recoloring it, not before.

try making it loose all of its saturation so it becomes a gray. then add a new layer and make the configuration of that layer overlay. then you can color that layer white.

Thats what I did, apart from the new layer. But there is no difference using 2 layers. Now I tried to export shadow, specular and normal to use them in some kind in Gimp but was not successful. Think there is something I absolutely do wrong.
Thanks for help nevertheless.

Its extremely hard to make something white because of the shadows baked onto the texture as you have found out.You are better off using something that is white to begin with. If you be a bit more descriptive in what you are trying to do someone may have a solution.

Thank you, MisterS! It seems do be the right way in principle what I’m trying. But I’m not really satisfied with the result. For English is not my language as you see, ist very difficult for me to explain what‘s the problem and, on the other hand, to understand the tips exactly.
The main problem I have with recoloring clothes is in fact not the bleaching as I wrote in headline (apart the white clothes becomes very shiny) but the coloring. When I take a white thing (in original or bleached) an give a color over it, you can see the seams und shadows very well on the white cloth but not on the colored. They look a bit like plastic.
But I go on trying.

I usually use the "levels" tool from photoshop to enhance what was attenuated by the recolorations I have beeen doing.

Thanks Zelrish! I now use an additional level with grayscale. That is working with most clothes.
