So I am trying to edit this hair. It is not an EA mesh, it is one I have downloaded so it has s4studio_mesh_(1,2,3,4,5,6). What I want to do is scale the hair wider on the x-axis and then add some hair on the right shoulder. I am confused on which s4studio meshes to edit though because 1 and 2 are the same with a slight variation, 5 and 6 are the same with a slight variation, and 4 is the same as 5 and 6 but with quite a bit extra too. Can I just join all the s4studio meshes together and then edit the hair how I want? Here is the blend of the mesh I want to edit so you can see what I'm talking about with the meshes all being very similar. I've tried several ways of editing this mesh but nothing has come out right so I'm asking what you all would recommend.

hello! can you please share a picture of the hair and the package file? also, is this hair alpha or clay? and do you have permission from the creator to edit it or is it for personal use?

This is just for personal use, I'm not going to upload it. Pretty sure it's an alpha mesh. Here is the package file though I haven't done anything with it yet. I'm starting from scratch again so I just selected it in S4studio and exported the mesh.

the package file you gave me is empty. can you give me the package file you exported the hair from?

if you were to look inside of the package in the warehouse, you'll notice that LOD0 has 6 geometries. some hair creators do this and some don't. some of the meshes are simskin and some are simglass. you can join them all together if you wish, but this may break the hair. i suggest sizing every cut one at a time.

annabluu Hmm, if I understand what you are saying I think I did that. I went through and on each s4studio_mesh_(1-6) I did select all vertices, scale, x-axis, 1.06 (so they would all get stretched the same and line up). But when I put it in game it was like the regular hair all weighted to the body and normal looking, then the hair that was edited on top but unweighted moving with the head. Like it was just a separate hair on top of the other one almost. Can I delete any of the similar meshes? Also I don't know what simskin or simglass is.

simskin is a shader that keeps an item from having transparency. simglass gives the ability for something to be transparent, hence the name glass. alpha hair is transparent so the shader is usually simglass. in this case, the creator wanted to have more diversity in their hair and to maybe cover up transparency issues. you can do this with simskin.
after you resize them, you will have to do a weight transfer with all six cuts. and unless you don't mind that the hair may break and not look as promising as before, you are free to do whatever you please.

I guess I'll try again, but my issue wasn't that I just wanted to know what is the best way to go about it, but that I have tried several ways or editing this hair and nothing has come out normal.
Sometimes the hair looks like two hairs layered on top of each other, other times parts of the hair don't even show up, and sometimes the hair appears in the game fine but isn't weighted even after I have gone through and done so.

i think instead of trying to modify this hair, you should start with an easier clay mesh. then once you attain the knowledge you need you can come back to this project.
it's really hard to explain to someone who doesn't have the knowledge.

Thanks for the video but I'm not really looking to learn how to mesh right now. Haha, I realize that's like the only questions I ask about on this forum but I'm just working on something and there are just a few cc's that aren't quite right for it so I'm just trying to find a quick way to fix them. Turns out meshing is a lot more work than I realized so I have a lot of respect for people that have the know how. But I am having this problem. I appended the hair from the left shoulder in and mirrored it to the right shoulder but the s4studio_mesh_7 (appended mesh) doesn't show up in game. I tried joining it to s4studio_mesh_6 too and that didn't work. I haven't weighted the hair yet cause I'm just trying to make sure the hair looks how I want it. Here is the new blend.

if you add another cut to your package, you will have to modify the package to tell it there is another cut. read this tutorial. it's not exactly about hair but he does explain how to create more cuts for your package.

So step 4 says to "Select Region map and then Edit Items on the entries line. Select Region Type:0 and then edit items." I don't have Region Type:0, I have this. Which do I choose?

i honestly don't remember. i experimented with this before but that was a while ago. you'll need to try them out and see which works. they are all hat chops. whichever one you choose will make your new cut show up on either one of the hat chops or the original in game mesh
