Hi, welcome to the forum! The correct term of your object would be a "headband accessory" not an overlay. So that's what you should look/ask for. We are a Sims 4 Studio forum, but a blender/marvelous designer/photoshop one, so we mainly cover this program and help to make the connection between the game and your custom mesh end. We're not here to teach you how to use any of the other programs that are not S4S so a basic knowledge about them is required. Specially since you mention that this is your first time using blender. You'll rarely find a tutorial specifically created to cater your project but one that will help you out towards learning the basics to achieve said project. Zelrish has suggested you to look at the tutorials that we have here in hopes of getting the basic knowledge to work between s4s and blender, but i recommend learning about the program beforehand trying to follow this tutorials. At least the basic, mind you that this isn't considered a easy difficulty project but a medium one. Not suggested for beginners. Having said that what you should do to achieve your project is clone an accessory such as earrings to start with, export its mesh and open it. Append the hair in question, delete the hair to leave only the headband. Delete the original EA accessory mesh group, edit the new headband cut number and import it back into S4S. Please read the following tutorial: - export/append/mesh replacement/cut numbers edit: Accessory tutorial. And this basic tutorial on how to edit a mesh in blender. I suggest pressing L while hovering the hair (with limit selection disabled) to select chunks of the hair that would be easier to delete. If this is a lot to take in, then i suggest starting with something more basic or reading more tutorials about meshing and accessories. Have you considered the original creator to do it instead? If you have more questions, please follow the guides and video first.

Apparently, doing an overlay was quite simple lol. I didn't even need blender to do it. Others helped me and I got it. Thank you for trying to help.

I'm sorry, i don't really understand what your project is about. You need blender to do accessories. But okay, if you don't need any of our help then i'm closing the thread.

I thought I had to create a mesh for the overlay (not a separate accessorie) where it only appears on that headband. i’m not ready to make my own accessory yet lol

(creating an overlay) I haven't been on here in awhile, but it was aharris00britney who helped me Here's what he told me: "Hey!! I can try to explain it a little. So first you need to cut out the headband texture in a photo editing program. Make sure it's just the texture, not any of the hair parts can show or those will overlay on the hair too. Then make the other color you want of it. After this, go into S4S and go to a pair of gloves and select them. Go into the warehouse, click the swatch, and search "sort layer" in the search bar. Then go back to the normal area and go into categories- -and change the category to what you want. I usually do a lip ring type thing Then import your textures, and remove the secular/shadow maps." Sorry for the extremely late reply. Just wanted to answer you just in case you haven't figured it out yet.
