Hi ya, I'm just starting to try a few clothing modifications to get into modding the sims 4.
I'm trying to change the spectral on some pre-made custom cc.
The item itself works fine and shows the new spectral perfectly. The trouble is the rest of the sim is blown out with shine!
The spectral image background looks white in sims4studio, but looks green once loaded into Photoshop?
I've tied with a green background, a solid white background and a erased (transparent) background. Each time I get the same blown out super shiny effect outside of the item on the sim.
I think I'm doing the mask layer correctly (item white, background black)?
I've read all the guides and tried following them but I'm clearly being a muppet. Can someone point out where I'm going wrong please? Thanks!

are you talking about the specular map? it's kind of hard to tell what's going on without a picture or package to reference to. you can upload a picture by using imgur.com and package by using sites like dropbox, onedrive, and simfileshare. how are you making the specular map? are you using the dds or png format?

Hi, yes specular not spectral sorry. I'm trying to make specular map in Photoshop with the Nvidia dds plugin. When I load a specular image into Photoshop it looks like this: Pic but shows as white in windows and Sims4Studio? I can get the item to look as I would like but the area on the sim outside the item is always super shiny and corrupt. I've tried keeping the background green, changing it to white and making it transparent? Thanks.

hi! the specular is composed by two texture. 2 dds, one of them the mask. you need to edit both and import one. S4S will import the other automatically (if you save them both in the same folder).
you need to save the files accordingly once edited. one has an alpha channel. you save this as dds dxt5 with alpha. the other has no alpha channel, you save this as dxt1.
if you need more assistance please share the package file just as you shared the image.

Also, for future reference, it is the shade of green that causes the extremely shiny look. Red, green, and blue each have a different effect depending on the shade and amount used. It would be best to keep backgrounds black as that is basically no shine. Here is a guide to the specular that you may find useful> teanmoon.blogspot.co.uk/2016/04/the-specular-texture.html
