Waaayyyy back in Sims 2 days, there was a way to link mesh files to other packages to utilize that package's texture files. The mesh package would not have its own textures... it would pull them from the "main mesh", sharing the same textures.
Is this possible in Sims 4? I've been digging but I can't find information... its probably a matter of semantics.
One other somewhat non-related question... I downloaded some recolors of Maxis objects the other day that were not "standalones". The recolors were within the Maxis object catalog entry, but indicated with the wrench icon.
I'm trying to figure out how that is possible as well... no need to clutter up the Buy Mode categories with recolors if I don't have to!!

Yes, there is a way to not include the original mesh, it's described in this tutorial: LINK

Not sure if that will do what I want... basically I have some kitchen counter "Add-ons" by a CC creator for one of the base game counters. But they won't pull any of the custom recolors I've downloaded by different creators for that same base game counter (I really miss that from Sims 2).
I could do it the hard way and export the cc recolors and then create a new standalone of the add-on mesh files and import all those cc recolor files. But holy heck that would be a pain in the butt! I was hoping for an easier way to do it... but Maxis had to go and make things 10 times more difficult! *grump*

I hate to mention it and I hope I don't get into any trouble saying it here, but have you tried TSRW to do that? I do not do standalones and I don't use other creators textures....if I do, I ask of course, I cut and paste the texture into the uvmap (I don't upload this stuff for others to use by the way). I pretty much create a new "texture". Then I recolor using it.....are you talking about counters themselves or like built in shelves in the counter--that kind of add-on or are they object add-ons to place on the counter?
Can't wait to see what you do? Did you ever finish that plant container of the lady? Geeze that was so freaking amazing!

I should have prefaced that this is for personal use only...
I downloaded some fun, bright recolors for the BlandCo and want them to work with the Add-ons CC meshes that I use for every house I decorate.
Can't get enough of that Bland counter... lol!
My Ladyhead vase has been neglected due to my struggle to get the specular maps to work properly. But i will get back to it!!
