I am not sure if this is even possible, but, I need something to allow a writer to work while living off the grid. I have found decorative objects and remeshed computers, but none of them would allow someone to write while off the grid. I don't actually care what it looks like so much, a notepad, typewriter, or even computer, just that it actually allows them to write. It also doesn't need to have any other function available. I played around with Sims 4 Studio and read some threads here, and it sound like if what I want is even possible, then whoever figured it out isn't advertising it, but I thought I would post in the hopes that someone had run across this or was willing to give it a try.
Since "off-grid" is in an expansion pack, I can't be sure this works, but did you try the custom typewriter you build? I haven't tried it when the power is off, but I don't see any utilities checks in the code, so it might work.
There's one lot that's landlocked by the already generated beach. I bulldozed that lot and built an Arts and Science Center there. My off-the-grid Sim goes there to write. Of course, it's a "generic" lot, so it's public but non-restrictive. Anyone can use it. All the necessities are there, bathroom, kitchenette, etc. I have to leave my lot but I can still stay in Sulani.
Here's the link to the handmade typewriter sims4studio.com/thread/6924/leniads-cupboard?page=8 It's part of the "electronics build (not woodworking). So you will need the other mods to go with it. Details are on the download page (scroll way down). I don't know if the electronics table is off grid though. You may need to create the typewriter elsewhere and place it on your lot from your inventory?
How odd! I downloaded it just before I posted the link. Maybe getting updated? I noticed, once I had it in-game that it works like a computer but off-grid, however the rain will short it out like any electrical item. Also, there was no selection to place it in inventory, repair, or replace it. I had to enter build mode and manually delete it. So, it's off-grid but indoor only.
Update: OK, I take it back. I forgot to turn "off-grid" back on after I bulldozed the lot. It doesn't work off-grid. Only choice, after placement, is "salvage." That leaves Leniad's suggestion left.
Although, I might try this one by Snowtato. I'll have to let you know. I wonder what setting inside the package tells it that it needs electricity and if that can be turned off?
