I want to create a CAS object with neon light but I don't see any existing CAS objects that have this already. Can I use a lamp object and create this into a CAS item to make this into the object with light? Or is there a different way?

Hi mintymoonsims. There are a couple of CAS items that you may want to take a look into, instead of attempting any object > CAS conversion, which is vary likely a recipe for a migraine. They are: The EP01 Alien suits, the EP02 bracelets, the Spooky Stuff pumpkin hat, (I am sure that I am not remembering several, still pumping coffee ATM). Adding 'emission' (light) to CAS items is one of Studio's most underrated and underused features, with the 'Import' button for any CAS item, Studio does all the rest, behind the scenes, per se. There are just certain 'rules' about making the emission texture, but you will se those if you look at those items mentioned above as clones. Cheers.

I looked into the alien suit and the emmission map. Have no idea how it works yet but it looks like emmission isn't quite the same as real light? And its going on and off? I just want the item to keep glowing like a neon lamp would.

Hi mintymoonsims. You are correct. To have an 'Always On' lit part of a CAS item, you need to make an all-black alpha map for whatever your lighting is. Following what I assume you are meaning by your last comment, I had not thought much about that myself, and have not seen and CAS item that has or emits actual 'lighting' out of it. I have not even seen any place where such a thing might be placed, and upon reflection, I am not entirely sure that the game engine could handle such a thing, with a 'moving' light in-game. This is based on my observations of Build Mode, where after placing most any lighting, the game engine 're-draws' any newly lit space with new shadowing. I hope that you understand what I am thinking about/trying to reference. Even with all of the myriad FX that we have to play with I have never come across any FX that creates light from its existence. Cheers.

Ah I think I know what you mean. Haven't really thought about it being difficult to have light moving. It's probably still different with disco lights? I guess having light in a CAS item is a no then. I might still fiddle around a bit with these emission files. I was going for these hype neon halloween masks. Maybe I can still create a fake kind of light.

mintymoonsims, The disco lights are only an FX, and are not 'light' in the sense of making dark areas lit. I have successfully attached them to a Sim with my CAS buff technique, and they travel along with the Sim as one would want. Another idea is any of the street light glows, as well the headlights from cars. They all travel, but not all FX travel along with the Sim as one may think. I have come across many that create themselves on load, then remain in-place afterwards, while the Sims is halfway across the neighbourhood. I would be more than Happy to make some suggestions if you could more precisely describe the kind of FX you wish to create! Cheers.

Ah thanks! Those are some very good examples which I might be able to work with. would love to know more about this CAS buff technique. I can send you an image of the mask through pm if you're not sure what I mean.

Using the emission method will make your item look lit up in dark rooms or at night it just won't cast light onto the currounding areas. Using the FX method explained by minimonster won't make the mask cast light either but you may get a better glowing look. You could even combine the two methods.

Ah that looks great! It actually looks like real light glow. Making it green will probably give just the effect I need. How did you attach the effect/object to a CAS item?

Anybody had any experience applying this effect to eyes? I think I'm most of the way there, but the Warehouse objects are different and I'm not sure I'm using GIMP to export the alpha channel for the emission properly:
