Hello!!! Brand spanking new to this community and to creating poses.
I wanted to know if it was possible to animate/pose sims with their clothes on. If so, how do you get the clothing mesh to attach to the sim properly and move with the sim as you animate them? The reason I ask is because too many times when I create poses, I always find that the fingers go through the hat, or the hand disappears into the dress. I just want to make animations and poses while knowing how close or far the hands need to be away from the body. Its frustrating to complete a pose and when you dress your sim in the game, the clothing gets in the way.

No, it is impossible. There is no physics in the game, clipping is unavoidable.

I opened this last night to reply and forgot to do so, lol.
I believe you can import clothes and such to determine where the sim body parts need to be to avoid majority of clipping.
I think there is a tutorial out there for adding clothes, skin details, and such, but I can't remember where, but for now watch this video and use the programs linked in the description, see if this works. It might if you apply it to the rig. A normal import video about posing with objects can probably be used, but using clothes instead.

Admittedly I haven't tried to animate with a hat, so I can't confirm what I'm about to say will work, but I'm almost certain it would. With clothing, you can't animate it because of the physics issue, but accessories such as hats and hand-held objects can be used as props in animations. In S4S, choose "create a 3D mesh" and export the mesh of any hat. By default, the blend file will usually have a rig, and the hat will be binded to it (meaning you can move the rig and the hat moves with it). You can make your pose or animation with that mesh file to avoid the clipping issues. By default, the rig is hidden and can't be selected, so just click the eye and cursor icons on the right and you can use the rig.
As far as clothing goes, you might be able to attach the clothes to the sim body (using the video above), but that's only to get an idea of where the arms need to be. If you're posing with a poofy dress on and the arms are down to the side, it will always clip. That's just how it is.
I hope that helps some. I didn't explain it very well, so I can explain further if needed
