Hi there. I use 3Dstudio max as my modelling software. I dont use blender. upon openning sims 4 studio, it states that i need a blender path.
Does this only support blender users?

sims 4 studio only supports blender files. this is because some of the factors the sims takes account for can be easily recognized in a blender file. you can easily convert your 3ds file to a 3d mesh and just convert it in blender, making sure to do weights and cuts, etc.

thank you for the responce annabluu. I did indeed try to use blender as a bridge for 3dsmax, ie to export Fbx. however sims4studio doesnt support the latest version of blender, so i was unable to export to 3dsmax. I dont want the hassle, so ive decided to pass on creating content for sims4 now. thank you anyway Anna xxx

Latest version of Blender doesn't work with ancient versions of Windows. TS4 is still supported to be run on ancient versions of Windows, therefore it would be a constant waste of time adapting Studio for all possible versions of Windows including XP and Blenders. For this reason developers of the program focused their efforts on functionality.

Hi Feyona. If the developers focused their efforts on functionality, or user friendliness, then sims4studio should have supported FBX and OBJ files instead of only blender. All games that allow for modding and custom content is fbx and obj orientated. Planet coaster is such a game. cities skylines too. FBX and OBJ files work universally across all platforms, but sims4studio doesnt.
Also your view point is flawed given that blender has been updated to improve its functionality. Its sims4studio that is outdated, and becoming incompatible, even with its native preference of blender. also i have no doubt that alot of people who engage with CC and modding in games, work on different projects, not just sims4, and may prefer or require to keep their 3d software updated. i wouldnt wish to find out that by updating blender or 3dsmax, for improved performance and functionality, only to realize that i can no longer mod a particular game due to incompatibility between versions. in that scenario you may have to install 2 versions of the same 3d program, but thats a hassle.
ps. ive found a 2.70 version of blender, and have exported the meshes as fbx to 3dsmax. Unfortunately as expected, the imported fbx in 3dsmax is a complete mess, which is usually the case when crossplatforming between different 3d software. with no tutorials regarding 3dsmax and sims4studio, im pretty much jumping into the dark on this. i dont know if have to keep the skinned skeleton, or change the orientation and unit measurements.

They are not obligated to do this in general, and are not obligated to follow anyone's demands. . Also your view point is flawed given that blender has been updated to improve its functionality. If it is not updated for the latest version of Blender there is a reason behind it. Thousands of users work in Blender with no problems, hundreds work with blender and 3DS max and Studio with no problems and no demands.

OBJ does not store vertex paint, weights, type, cut numbers, multiple meshes and uv maps. FBX does not store vertex paint, type and cut numbers. This plugin changes interface by adding fields where you can set up cut numbers and type, which is what s4s uses to determine what meshes to import and in what order. Objects in Planet coaster and Cities skylines do not need to morph, move and interact with accessories. What is "flowed" here is your understanding of how things work and what it takes to make them work.

My only arguement is that people who use other software should be included too.

That said. the developers of sims4studio, obviously wanted to give back to the community of sims4, with the ability to mod. so why not for everyone? and its not about money. I havent mentioned any version of windows feyona. windows has nothing to do with this. different versions of blender is merely an update of its own functionality and performance. the reason behind why the latest version of blender isnt compatible with sims4studio is within the .blend file itself. when blender updates its features it may require to save additional information that it did not require in previous versions. It has nothing to do with windows. I agree with you. thousands do work in blender, as are there who work with blender and 3dsmax. however. within the other thread, 3dsmax users who do not use blender, do seek support. some of which i had noticed never had their questions answered. I also think that people like myself get put off by the incompatibility, and therefore you probably dont see many issues regarding other 3dsoftware, because they see sims4studio as incompatible.

Hi haristess, if you find it too difficult to use Sims4Studio in conjunction with your expensive 3D modeling software, it's fine to simply choose some other Sims 4 creation tool. We've chosen to focus the limited time we have for our hobby on making something that people can use even if they don't have the money to buy an expensive 3D program. We have also chosen to focus that limited time on developing a tool for Mac users (which the Sims has not had before to the best of my knowledge) and adding features to both versions of Studio.
We don't have time to support more than two versions of Sims 4 Studio, and we have no plan to develop a version that supports a 3D modeling tool that costs over $1000/year at this time. There is no reason people using expensive programs cannot use Blender as a bridge, and, indeed, many creators do so.
If this is a problem for you, again, you are welcome to use some other tool for making things for Sims 4.
