Hi,
I'm new to custom content creating, but excited to get started. Wondering the best approach on how to learn to make custom clothing in CAS. I'll add my steps below, but looking for links and resources you have used that helped you the most. Feel free to modify my step list, too! As it's just a guess right now.
1. Learn Blender basics
2. Export/import mesh from Sims4Studio
3. Edit the mesh in Blender
(this one is huge and having a hard time figuring out how. The meshes I see are so complex and moving faces/vertices/edges around usually ends up looking like garbage after I'm done. What is the proper way to edit mesh? Or is it better to create a mesh from scratch? But creating it from scratch, how would I get the mesh onto a body that is made for Sims4?)
4. Design UV maps (better to edit existing ones or create one from scratch?)
5. Apply map to body, then import back into Sim4Studio so you can save it as a package file.
6. Add package file (do you need the blender file too if you made your own mesh?) to your Mods folder and test on sims.
What I have done so far:
I found this great Blender video tutorial on Udemy, so I've been watching how to manage the controls. Just the basics in object mode and edit mode. Adding modifiers like mirror, and manipulating vertices, edges, faces. All the keyboard shortcuts on how to move around your model.
I exported a Sims4 mesh from Sims4Studio, and opened it in Blender, but trying to edit existing mesh is so hard! Like I have this sweater with an undershirt collar, and I wanted to make the collar bigger and extend to the shoulders. The collar is part of the main sweater mesh (just pulled out to look like a collar). I try to select the collar parts that are there, but it's really hard since it folds over the sweater, and can't see the underneath faces. So I don't ever select it all (whether vertices or faces), and end up making the wireframe look all weird and out of shape, with quirky edges I don't know how they got there... anyway, just looks awful.
I haven't got to the UV map part yet, since first I need a mesh completed.
Any links, tips/tutorials or order of steps you recommend would be great! Thanks!
