Hey guys , I've encountered a very annoying issue with S4S last night :(( ..when I import this image into a package: imgur.com/v4cZHJT..S4S 3.1.3.3 alters it to this: imgur.com/3y0u9zy..it adds some odd black triangles/squares around the edges here the part of the image where it occurs: imgur.com/h2p2bT6------------------------------------------------------- Is it a known issue and is there anything that can be done? Thx in adv.

I made the texture my self, uploaded to a package with S4S and noticed those black triangles/squares around the edges. If I export the same image that I just have imported it comes out altered like this: epicusmaterialis.tumblr.com/post/620564610757558272Unfortunately it seams that S4S add some impurities along the edges upon conversion form PNG to DDS :( ..I found a workaround tho, I moved the UV to the "extra top and bottom" and I expand the selection by 5 pixels before I cut. The triangles/squares are still there but not visible on the dress, Lotta work tho, :// Thanks for your reply

Hi. You should have tried saving in a different file format or with with a different background.

Hi and thanks for the reply There is no background, I'm not sure why imgur and tumbir are rendering it as black background but there is non, it a PNG file with 100% transparent background! I haven't tried to save the file as DDS, it never crossed my mind, I'll try this tomorrow. Good night all

The artefacts you are seeing is from the conversion to DDS that S4S needs to do in order to work in the game. S4S just supports the import of different formats then converts them to the required format, not forcing the game to read different image formats.
I find that if you have transparency in a texture like you have here for the cutout alpha layer, it is much better to export from your graphics editor as DDS (DXT5 specifically) then as a PNG. This will require you to know how to use the alpha layer in your respective program, but hopefully it will lessen the artefacting you are seeing. It wont fully remove it though, artefacts are just a result of the compression that happens with DDS file format to keep the size down. Its about minimising it, rather then permanently removing them.

Good night all Transparency is -in a way- a colored background, Mayvemorn is right ^_^ When i work with alpha objects I actually fill the background on purpose with the color closest to my diffuse maps, so the "extra pixels" blend with the texture. For example, when doing rattan openwork, my background is a light beige.

peacemakerI don't know much about alpha layers, I've heard the name before, I'll need to google some tutorials. This texture consists of a background (dark red), my own shade layer (as darken or liner burn) and a bump layer which is a merger of two EA bump maps (a t-shirt and a skirt) added as one of the overlay options (vivid light I think). Then I just change the background color to add more swatches, save 'em as BNP and load 'em into the package. Thanks for your explanation much appreciated SybouletteNice tip, appreciated. Perhaps a possible workaround would be to select a two pixels line around the texture, one on the texture itself and the other just outside and then add gauss blur. This will add some transparency to the outter edge and will add some color to the transparent part but perhaps it would fix it. I'll give it a try
