I'm about to install the latest version of mac (Catalina), and it's given me a message saying that neither Blender application on my computer (I have 2.70 and 2.78) will open following the update. From what I've read on forums, Blender 2.79 will work with Catalina, but am I right in believing that Sims 4 Studio isn't compatible with 2.79? Is this something the devs are working on or do I just have to not update my mac? I would post this in the bug reports section but for some reason the post/reply option for that section is missing.

Hi. Tecnically s4s is compatible with 2.79, but is seems to not work for everyone. What you can do is the following: Before updating ios, install 2.79. In Blender 2.79 go to File - User preferences, click on Install from file button, navigate to _:\______\Sims4Studio\Blender\Scripts\, and choose io_sims.py, click on Install from file, close and open Blender and s4s again. If you will see cas tools, then you can update, if not, then no idea what to do

As far as I know Blender for Mac works with 2.78 for many users. I think you will need to wait and see if anyone can chime in and say if it works for them with 2.79. Both developers are currently busy, and even if it happens that Studio will work for some people on 2.79 and for you don't, there is no guarantee that developers will have time for that. I know that for Windows it either works or not, and there is no way to track down why it works for some people and doesn't work on other machines. Personally I would hold on with any updates if you really need Studio to work.

Well, I'm a moron. I was worried that Blender 2.79 wouldn't be compatible with studio, not realising that I already have Blender 2.79 installed (I thought it was 2.78). What this means is that only Blender 2.8+ is going to work with Catalina, which is even worse news for Mac users of studio. I did follow your steps for Blender 2.8 mauvemorn just to check, but unsurprisingly I had no luck. Thank you for the explanation though! I guess you're right Feyona, I'm either going to have to wait for S4S to be updated or just refuse to update my laptop

Damn, these are very bad news because if s4s developers were to make it compatible with 2.8, s4s won't work on some old pcs at all
maybe they could discontinue support for 2.7, 2.77-9, and make it only for 2.76 and 2.9? But newer versions of Blender seem to be very different from the old ones so that would probably won't be easy or fast

Developers didn't have any plans to update S4S to work with 2.8 since many people still play the game on ancient versions of Windows, and newest versions of Blender are not compatible with these OS. Can't say anything about Mac. We have a very small amount of people using Mac. Studio was never coded to work with 2.80+ versions, so It is not working only because it was not meant to work.

I asked a friend who's on mac and uses catalina, and they use 2.78 which works for them. I use 2.79 on windows and that works fine for me, so I reckon that would work on mac too.
I think when you update to catalina you may just need to reinstall blender 2.78, and it should work (or install 2.79 if that doesn't work).
