HI. I'm new to the forum and new to S4 Studio. My question is regarding an alpha hairstyle. I won't mention the creators name. This creator has an alpha hairstyle released recently and it is one of the few alpha hairstyles that I have liked in the last 6 months or so. The problem is the hairstyle when used on my sim, puts a weird shadow on both sides of the sims face, and the back "half" of their neck and shoulders. It is not a problem with my game, as there have been several comments posted on this persons page on TSR regarding this shadow issue. i have tried contacting this person twice about the shadow issue on another website that they have, but have gotten no response. When I open the package file in S4 studio there is a separate layer with the shadow. I have tried exporting the shadow file as a png file and then edit it in Paint 3D with an eraser tool. Then I re-imported the png file back into the package file. That did not work. I also tried making the png file transparent. That did not work either. I can delete the shadow layer and that solves the problem. However, the hairstyle doesn't look quite as nice that way. I can see where a lighter shadow by the hairline and towards the ears would certainly look a little better. I am wondering if someone can advise me as to how I can fix this problem as I would like to use the hairstyle is possible. Let me say I have no intention of using the edit hairstyle for anything but personal use. If there is some sort of "violation" of cc usage involved, kindly tell me so and I will just give up on this piece of cc and move on. Thanks

Hi. Generally you can do whatever you want with the file so long its for personal use. What you can do is adjust brightness to "shrink" the grey area. It is probably impossible to do in Paint 3d, but you might be able to do it in the image viewer. If not, you can download Paint.net or GIMP, both free, and do it there. Also, after you import a shadow map in png, do you not get the dark lines along the borders of it in CAS?

Hi mauvemorn. Thanks for the reply. In answer to your question...yes I had black lines along the border of the shadow map in CAS. I will try what you suggest. If I use a program like Paint.net to adjust the brightness of the shadow map will I still have a problem with the black lines when I re-import the png file back into the package file? Sorry, although I was an art director for many years, I am retired now and software like S4 Studio was never my forte. I appreciate the help.

mauvemorn, I found that the issue with the jagged black line disappears if you: 1. Use pen tool to cut around the shadow. 2. Save it in .dds. Another workaround is to create a new layer underneath the shadow layer, fill it with white color and merge 2 layers, save in .dds. This is the last resort since items with the shadow file like this create artifacts on the clothes.
