Hello! I'm trying to do some clothing conversions (ts4 to ts2). I've exported the mesh I want to convert with Sims 4 Studio, but when I open the mesh in blender there is no rig, so I can't re-pose the model to fit the TS2 body better. I assume the problem is that I don't actually have TS4 installed, so the program can't export the rig/skeleton. But that's just a guess, I don't actually know!
Is there any way around this? Can I somehow get the rig/skeleton any other way? I googled and tried to find some templates but alas.
Any advice is appreciated!
EDIT: Perhaps if someone could send me an exported .blend file of an AF body, in whatever clothing, I could import it and still have the rig?

Hi. It is probably more about the version of Blender you have. s4s does not support 2.8+ versions, this is usually how it reacts to incompatibility. Instead of opening the blend file, append everything ( beside lights and the likes ) into the scene But here is a file |

I actually have two blender versions installed, 2.70 and 2.90 and it doesn't work in any of them. Thank you so much for the file!!  ) Now I just need to figure out how to combine it with the dress. EDIT: I'm a bit confused how to combine the rig with the mesh. I appended everything but can't seem to figure out how to get the mesh to move with the new rig. |

You need to add Armature modifier to the dress and choose rig in the drop down menu

Maybe I'm doing it wrong, nothing happens after I click "apply", the box just goes grey and nothing moves with the rig still.  EDIT: I'm not sure what I did but I managed to be able to pose the dress..but um..this isn't looking good. What did I do wrong? The whole mesh deforms when moving the rig.  |

You must not click apply until you get the mesh into the right pose.

Still haven't figured out why the mesh gets wonky when I pose it :( It's so annoying, all I wanted to do was lift the arms a bit so I could convert it to TS2 easier.

sorry, forgot to check this thread.
In the file you shared there is no rig or body parts in the scene. Append everything but lights and a camera. Or better open the blend i shared and import the dress only in it. I need to see the exact file in which the issue occurs. |

You need to choose the right rig in the drop down menu. rig is empty, rig.001 is not. You also should not delete vertex groups from the dress, it will not move

That's the issue, using the file I uploaded I choose add armature and it looks like this:  Nothing actually moves until I press "bone envelopes", and when I do the arm gets wonky:  I haven't deleted anything, I only opened up the dress mesh, appended everything in the rig file you sent(except for lamps and camera), selected the dress, chose add modifier, armature and the correct rig. So I must have missed something, right? |

The dress is not rigged at all. Not a single bone influences it. No matter what rig you will choose, nothing will happen. This information was lost somehow.
Did you export the dress using s4s or some other software? I do not know if it is even possible to run the software without The sims 4 linked in the settings. If you did manage to export it without linking the game but the weights are lost in the process, there is nothing you can do about it because there is no option to include or exclude weights, so the software must need the access to the game to get the rig.
If you used a different software, it does not export the weights at all.
Anyway, if you want to do only one conversion, I can export the dress that is properly rigged. If you plan on making a lot more, you should align ts2 rig to ts4 dress first, apply is as a rest pose, transfer weights, put rig in its previous position, apply that pose. You will most likely have to edit the weight in the armpit area. This is quite a lot of trouble, so if you happened to download ts4 when it was free or have someone who did, it is best to install it just so you ca have it easier.
What bone envelope does is make bones affect the nearest areas to them. Since arms are far away, it affects them not in a way that is right. You should not be enabling it when the mesh is rigged.

Thank you so much for all your answers, it's been very helpful. I exported the dress using Sims 4 Studio, but I don't have TS4 installed so you're probably right about the software not being able to export the rig. I tried using s4pe as well, but with the same results. I was actually planning to do two conversions(for personal use) only. I guess it's not worth the hassle with transferring weights and all since I'm still new at this. If you could export the rigged meshes for me, that would be very nice but I understand if you don't of course. Thank you again!
