Hi everyone,

after years of recoloring for Sims 2 & 4 I decided to try my hand at creating custom meshes. I'm using Marvelous Designer 10, Blenders 2.79 and 2.70, S4S 3.1.4.2.

I thought I'd create a rather simple long shirt/jacket with a collar.

1) I've been following a tutorial,but I always end up with UV issues. I know that I can't delete the UV of the body but I'm not sure how to edit the UV map so they're not overlapping. If I do that, my texture is going to show on both the skin and the shirt. I can do data transfer and transferring weights just fine

I've done a lot of trial and error for a few days but I can't seem to figure it out. Knowing me, all I'm missing is pressing one button. :D

I'm attaching a fresh iteration. All I've done is rename the UV maps, closed the sleeves, deleted parts of the UV map covered by the shirt. Polycount not optimized yet. The UV map of the front is moved out of the way.

2) The other issue is that the free falling lapels are invisible in S4S and game. I did some reading and watching and it seems like I need to soldify those parts of the meshes? Is there any other way without inflating the polycount too much?

Any help much appreciated!

Hi. You should watch a different tutorial because the ones where authors tell viewers to download 2.7 are identical and full of mistakes.

1). Never join the body with the garment until you will make the later fully functional;
2). Never import the mesh in s4s until the garment is fully functional;
3). Do not use Remesh in MD, it only makes it worse;
4). The shirt's uvs must be in the space meant for tops, right now some of them are in the space meant for bottom. To fit them there, you must scale down all parts of the shirt uniformly;
5). A face has only one front side. The falling lapels are see-through because you extruded the backside of the shirt. Select the area, press Alt E, choose Region (vertex normals), type 0,002. Press Ctrl+ to select all the extruded area, press Shift H to isolate it, Mesh - Normals - flip normals. You do not need side geometry where it is not visible, delete it. Move or unwrap the uvs. Alt H to unhide;
5). When closing holes, do not just extrude and scale down, extrude and collapse with Alt M - Collapse. Then unwrap the created geometry
6). The mesh is not rigged or vertex painted, it has no proper uv_1 map. It will not move or morph.

thanks for the help! I'll go look for more tutorials then.

I have a few things to clarify:
4) As I mentioned, I put the front of the shirt on the bottom intentionally for this post. I have scrapped about 10 trial and error blender files, so I know where to place things.

If I understand correctly, I position my shirt UV and once I'm finished with the shirt I can join it with the body. I'm probably just dumb but won't that cause me the same problem? The neck UV and the shirt UV are going to overlap upon joining, so the shirt texture will be on both the skin and the shirt, no?

6) Yes, this is only first few steps for demonstrative purposes as I started fresh. As I mentioned I can do all the rest no problem.

6). G to move, S to scale, R to rotate. Following the first two with X/Y will constraint transformation to horizontal/vertical axis. Following any with a number will move/rotate the selection by that number of pixels/degrees. By default UV space is square ( 1:1 ), but TS4 textures are not ( 2:1 ). UV islands that were generated in the square space will become stretched vertically when rectangular textures are applied. To bring them back to their original size, select everything in UV Editor, press G Y 0.5
Place the garment's UV islands in the right spot. Make sure to scale them uniformly unless some need extra definition ( buttons, zipper, other small details ) or are hidden ( geometry created to cover holes, back side of clothing, etc ).

I listed the missing steps to ensure that you know all of them should be done. Often people do not about vertex painting and that uv_1 is not just a duplicate. For the future, always share the final file you import in s4s so that we could check everything. There is always more than what the person is asking for help with.
