I have seen the this subject brought up but never resolved — is it possible to substitute a different texture or image for the "videosurface" object used for television screens?
I had the thought recently, while working with another project, of creating a wall-mounted television that appears to be a painting when "off", and want to determine if this is even possible before attempting such a thing.
The fact that I have never seen such exhibited by any stock models or CC — including examples for which it would have been a logical addition — tends to suggest that swapping the basic glassy surface for an image simply cannot be done.
Does anyone know for certain; or if it is possible, how one would accomplish it?

This has definitely already been done, but the example that came to mind (which was part of a big set and no fanfare was made about it) is still in early access and Google hasn't turned up another. I could have sworn I'd seen one on some historical site before, though. (The recently released one is still glassy, but they may not have made any attempt to change that since it resembles an art print under glass.)

Well, that is promising, at least, though the question remains: how is it accomplished? My admittedly limited familiarity with such studio app leaves me uncertain which resources and tunings are so much as involved, let alone what must be changed.
