Hi there! I'm creating some lamps and I'm facing some issues with the game's thumbnail generation. The objects looks fine in-game but the catalog thumbnail shows a weird shadow. What it is interesting is that if I click on the object, the thumbnail next to the description shows up perfectly. I have no idea what's going on, I checked the mesh and everythings looks fine, tried to delete the AlphaMap from the LOD but that didn't work. Any ideas what could be going on? Should I try to load a "clean" game without mods and just the lamp to see if the thumbnail generates correctly? Here are the package and Blender file Thanks in advance!

The best thing is to make your own thumbnail, to be honest. You can delete the background and add your own background. It's a good idea to add your creator name to the thumbnail, as well. This way, it's easy for someone to identify who made a piece of custom content they have. There are three types of shadows that I'm aware of: There is the shadow that your object casts on the floor or on a table, etc, and that would be the flat plane under your mesh that you see in Blender--it has a cut number of 0. To get rid of it, just delete all but one triangle of the shadow mesh, size it to the size of a pin, and hide it inside your mesh. That way, it's still there, it still has the proper cut number, and Sims4Studio will import the mesh as it should. Then there is the sun shadow. This is the shadow that appears when your object is placed outside. I can't remember but I'm 99% sure this shadow changes as the sun moves just like a sun shadow does in real life. This is the mesh that's created when you delete the flat plane and give your main mesh a cut number of 0. It will appear grey in Sims4Studio's viewport. To get rid of it, delete all but one triangle of your mesh and size it as small as it will go. You can move this triangle below ground level in Blender if you want to make certain it doesn't show up in the game. This way, just like I said above, the mesh is still there with the proper cut number and you can import it into Sims4Studio without a problem. Some objects--end tables, for example--cast a shadow on the wall when you place it next to a wall. To get rid of this, you'll need to delete any occluders your mesh has. Go into the warehouse section and click on "light," on the right-hand side at the top, click "text," then next to where it says "occluder" click on "edit items." You'll get a pop-up window. Click on each of the occluders and then click "remove." If you want the game to generate a thumbnail but you don't want it to show a shadow, you'll have to remove the occluders and/or minimize one or both of the shadows from your final product. However, that means your object might look weird in the game. Again, the best thing to do is to make your own thumbnail. You can make the thumbnail look the way you want and, if you add your creator name, you'll make it easier for others to identify your custom content. Here is Orangemitten's explanation of the different types of shadows in the Sims 4: sims4studio.com/thread/3574/fix-type-sims-object-shadowHope this helps

Quick update. Because I'm a geekazoid, I did some testing. I made three package files. One with the shadow plane minimized, one with the shadow mesh minimized, and one with both. Tested them in game. Nope, the thumbnail still showed a shadow. Looks like you'll have to make a custom thumbnail if the shadow bothers you. Regardless, you just got a lesson on shadows. You are welcome, lol. :P

Thank you Fwecka (Lolabellesims)! I kept trying and I *think* it has something to do with the DoubleSided modificator. I set it to 0, then back to 1, cleared thumb cache and now appears correctly. Pretty weird indeed! I have another lamp with the same issue so I'll try this and if there's no luck I'll create a custom thumbnail. Thanks again for your help!

I have no clue what the DoubleSided modificator is. If you told me it involved woohooing squirrels I would believe you, lol. Usually, I make a custom thumbnail. You can have a lot of fun making creative thumbnails, actually. And I don't know about you, but I always appreciate a custom thumbnail that shows the creator's name. Makes it easier to find a file in the 10 million gigs of stuff I've got.

The doubleSided flag tells the game that a single plane of a mesh should have the texture applied to both sides and not just one which is the default behaviour. Good for use on plant leaves to keep the poly count low.
