I'm at a total loss as to how to override objects in a world. I'm interesting in replacing some of the plants in one of the world with other plants already in the game. I've been through quite a few tuning tutorials but they seem to only cover changing text or actions whereas I just want to replace one object with another.

I have tried this with a few things and it does seem a bit hit & miss, but there again I just play around with it. For example fish colours can be changed by using the override choice and simply replacing the textures. Trees can also be changed if you pick the right ones, all the world's have different trees, for example I couldn't change the trees in the secret Sylvanian Glade, I tried to see if it was possible, there again I may have missed something and it is possible. But I have not ever tried to change a world object mesh, but in theory it should be doable if it's not slaved to something else. They are just objects just like the game objects only not useable. I read that using the debug cheat to access world objects means that they will be walked through by sims, but if you change the mesh and made it an override It should work. I have found that anything with interaction tuning is hard to change, but I am so new at this again it's my lack of knowledge that is probably the problem. Maybe try a small plant and just do the same as you would for any override object and see what happens.

You wouldn't do it with tuning, but instead like Freeasabird said you'd just treat it like any other override. Use the Object > Override option on the main menu, then click the debug box, and unfortunately scroll and search for a while until you can find what you need (and don't forget to sort by pack). If you recognize the plant type (like beech or pine) you can try using keywords and see if that helps you track it down. Doesn't always help though, some are not named properly, lol.
