www.simfileshare.net/download/2511279/Looking back a couple other items I had intended to have no shine have shine, but this is the first time I really noticed. I made the spec flat black. With or without alpha it's shiny, but with full alpha it's extremely shiny. Anyone know what gives?

Hi. When alpha has nothing in it, it's not saved. So the whole background is read as opaque(pure white). To make a "blank" specular, fill both rgb and alpha with black but put a tiny white dot somewhere in the corner on the alpha channel

I did that, but there's still a shine there.
I tried exporting the spec map after importing it and found something weird. It seems like black is turned into green for some reason? Although with the alpha being black I don't see why that should matter.

the type of specular your item gets depends on the channel, it probably floods everything that is empty with green (as in, everything with white in the green channel). Thought putting a dot in the alpha would result in the black dot, but probably not, so try putting a white dot on rgb as well, in the same place ( or just use png, transparent background, white dot in the corner )

That didn't seem to work either.
Maybe it's the difference between a DST image and an RLES one?

The should be no difference it this case Just in case, check if you are editing the file that is in the right (mods) directory and not somewhere else. Here are the files, they work for me (if you are using textures of the default size, choose spec1024x2048, this is not the real size of the image, just less confusing for people downloading it)

It's still shows a weird shine.
It's mostly bad in CAS, so maybe I should just let it go. But it's pretty strange.

I’m on mobile rn and can’t check the files again, but if the map does not work, it’s not the specular. What did you clone? Does it have any other map beside specular and diffuse? Did you make a uv_1?

Yep, it has a uv_1. The base item - Noctis - has a specular.
Usually I want at least a bit of shine, but this time I don't. I dunno why it's so shiny in CAS. But it isn't so much in game, so .... I dunno, I don't get it.

Yep, that's the incorrectly saved normal map. Hi. The reason the skin looks darker is because the normal map was saved without the alpha channel. Make sure to save it with interpolated alpha ( DXT5 ) and generated mip maps
