Full disclosure, I'm completely new to blender and fairly new to s4s. I have almost no experience working with photo editors or any of this stuff. All I've done so far is recolor a few objects, separate mattresses from frames, and delete part of a chair. I'm very lost. Please help.
I wanted to recolor the tarp rug from City Living because it's like the perfect size rug. Only problem was, no matter what I did, the tarp outline and rings showed through the texture. They wouldn't in s4s but they would in game. I couldn't figure out how to get rid of it by recoloring so I decided to try my hand at making a mesh.
I used illogicalsims "creating a basic cc object" video, although that's for a table. I made a plane and then a cube and I squashed the cube down till it was almost flat so it'd look like a rug. Even though I'd deleted the original mesh, the tarp texture showed up on the cube I made. I thought I'd try it anyway.
I put it on the UV map thing (at least, I think I did. I could drag corners and stuff but I only put the top face on and it was just transparent in gimp). I exported that and tried to do what was in the video but, since it was just a blank square, there wasn't much to do.
Then I imported the mesh and texture to s4s. I recolored the blank white square for one swatch and left it blank for the other. You couldn't see any tarp texture in s4s.
I put it in the game.
Tarp texture underneath mine.....
I went back and messed around with it some more. On the UV map in blender, I dragged the lines until the texture on the mesh was just grey and tried it that way. Still no luck. One side of the tarp texture is partially missing but I think I just didn't make the mesh big enough for it to show up because the other side is still there.
I don't understand how it's still there when I've made a new mesh and recolored it... I've redone it multiple times and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong...
