This stuff can be confusing when you're a beginner. Trust me, I went through it, too.
Basically, you need to remember that whatever is in your package regarding the specular and bump map that you clone
you must keep but you can replace these textures with your own. For instance, if you clone something with two bump maps then the package will be set up to use two bump maps. Deleting a bump map will cause problems simply because the package expects two bump maps. Same thing with specular maps. Some people use the "make blank" button but that causes problems too, so don't use it.
Unfortunately, when making custom content you can't skip the bump map and specular map part of the process. Many people are intimidated by bump maps and specular maps and don't want to deal with them, so they use the make blank button or they delete the bump map and specular map, (or they just keep the original ones) and this causes problems.
If you want a "blank" specular map:
*Export the EA specular from whatever you cloned.
*Open it in Photoshop.
*Bucket fill or paint the RGB channel with 100% black.
*
If there's an alpha channel just delete it. Fill the alpha channel with 100% black.
*Flatten the image (layer > flatten image).
*
Save it as a DDS using DXT1 No Alpha. Save it as a DDS using DXT5 Interpolated Alpha. Make sure generate mipmaps has been selected.
If you want a "blank" bump map:
*Export the EA bump map.
*Open it in Photoshop.
*Use the eyedropper tool and sample a corner of the RGB channel.
*Bucket fill or paint the entire RGB channel with whatever color you sampled.
*Select the alpha channel.
*Use the eyedropper tool and select a corner.
*Bucket fill or paint the entire alpha channel with whatever color you sampled.
*Flatten the image (layer > flatten image).
*Save as a DDS using DXT5 Interpolated Alpha. Make sure generate mipmaps has been selected.
