Chairs required 32-bit instances before some fall update fixed that. But what other items still require it? Counters, sectional sofas? Anything else? And why is it needed?

For regular CC, it's just counters and sectional sofas and it's because of the thumbnails not generating when 64bit. But if you're making functional objects then recipe objects need it, but I don't remember the reason. That's about it in terms of CC though.

Thumbnails are generated for 64-bit instances, but there’s one caveat. Thumbnails for multi-mesh items (counters, cabinets, sofas) use the first symbol of the instance to link them to their parts. For example, your instance is 2CCCCCCC44444444, then the thumbnail instances for a counter will be: 1 | Tile | 2CCCCCCC44444444 | 2 | Left End Piece | 3CCCCCCC44444444 | 3 | Right End Piece | 4CCCCCCC44444444 | 4 | Outrer Corner | 5CCCCCCC44444444 | 5 | Inner Corner | 6CCCCCCC44444444 |
You have 16 symbols: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, A, B, C, D, E, F. And then the count starts all over again. Therein lies the problem. For example, your instance is D888888844444444, then the thumbnail instances will be: 1 | Tile | D888888844444444 | 2 | Left End Piece | E888888844444444 | 3 | Right End Piece | F888888844444444 | 4 | Outrer Corner | D888888844444444 | 5 | Inner Corner | E888888844444444 |
So, when you click first on the tile piece (1) and then on the outer corner (4), the game will overwrite the first thumbnail. In short, after creating a package, go to the Warehouse tab and check the instance. Change the first symbol if needed (it must be ≥8, otherwise the game will crash). Or just use Selective Clone and the 32-bit option. Note: Object Definition and Object Catalog of the same swatch must have the same instance.

That this issue really got fixed for chairs and reverted back to 64 bit instances is new to me. In my game the 64 bit chairs still won’t work, only 32 bit creations.

Yes I know, but as I said, when I create a chair the regular way (32 bit unchecked), it still don't work. No clue why. If it's really fixed it should work for everyone with every chair incl. office chair and bar stool, don't you think? Maybe some chairs still don't work like the one I cloned. I have to test this now with several chairs, once again.
