When you export a CAS Sim object into Blender, the body meshes are split into different components; top, bottom, head, head2, etc.
If I wanted to replace the top mesh with a different top mesh, how should I go about doing this? Is it as simple as deleting the existing top mesh and appending a new one in Blender? Or are there other measures that need to be taken?

Hi. Technically you should not touch what’s going on under the rig(at least when making CAS items) or ts4 can act up for some reason. If you want to make a full body outfit, you just clone a full body outfit. If you want to replace the top just in blender, you can just hide the top under a rig, then append the top from another package.
-in your blend file unfold rig and hide the top; -clone a top you want, export the blend; - back to the first blend, File -Append - the blend of the top - Objects - the meshgroup(s) of the top; - delete rig.001 and boneboneshape; - if a top is made of multiple meshgroups, you can join them all into one with Ctrl J; - to make this top be affected by the rig in the scene, select the top, in modifiers tab you’ll see the armature modifier. Choose the rig in the drop down menu
