I'm trying to convert a sims 2 lamp to sims 4. I display the edges smoothly both in sims4studio and blender. But when i see the object ingame (with night illumination) i see sharp edges like in the image above. I don't understand if it's a shader problem or something else. This is the package file www.simfileshare.net/download/3014025/

Hi. Switch shading so solid and you will see the issue in blender. If the mesh did not come like this and you used Edge split modifier, dont rely on. Unless you're making an extremely angular mesh, this modifier will split things that you do not need. - switch shading to Solid; - select s4studio_mesh_2, in edit mode select everything with A, Remove doubles with merge distance set 0,0001; - Mesh - Faces - Tris to quads, enable Compare uvs; - deselect everything with A, Select - Sharp edges, change the angle to 70; - Mesh - Edges - Mark sharp; - Alt-click on the sharp edge loop that was not selected, Shift Alt click to select more of them, Mark them as sharp; - select those edges mark as sharp that do not need to be, Mesh - Edges - Clear sharp; - select one edge marked as sharp, Select - Select similar - Sharpness, Mesh - Edges - Edge slit

But why it happens? Do Sims 2 meshes need to be fixed like this in order to work properly in game?

The mesh may come out chopped up from the game because of uvs. A single vertex cannot have multiple uv coordinates, so the mesh is split along the borders of uv islands Anyway, yes, you must always check how the mesh is shaded and fix it.
