Hi, guys. Has anyone figured what blending modes Maxis uses when overlaying colors? Was anyone able to revert to the original grayscale image?
Some of my findings:
- Match Color or Replace color are pretty useless, do not give the right shade;
- changing, for example, the blue hair texture to green with Hue/Saturation does not give the result that matches the original green texture, so they are overlaying colors, not adjusting them;
- i do not remember what hair that was but i stumbled across one where the colors were overlaid over a grayscale image with the fully transparent background(no gray between uv islands). I sampled them and they were identical to those of the corresponding swatches, so my guess is, they are overlaying those swatch colors specifically, not any other shade of them;
- the blending mode they are using is not Color, i think, it seems to burn the color into an image, not just change the shade. For example, I made a grayscale image out of Platinum blonde and adjusted it to more-or-less match the original. Then I tried overlaying a different color and did not get the right result at all. No other blending mode gives anything close enough either.
