Hey everyone. I am new to modding. However, I have had S4S for quite some time, and have used it to create some simple CC. But now, I want to move into mods. I have watched all the tutorials I can find, including those by S4S staff. But, sadly, it isn't enough to get me past my hurdles. The problem is, I think, that what I want to do involves so many tunings that I get lost and don't know which ones to edit. It all looks like Greek to me. Beyond simple on-offs, I can't do much.
Arbitrary example: Let's assume that I wanted to adjust age-restricted interaction and actions, such as who can drink alcoholic beverages? Or who can use a regular bed, instead of requiring a toddler bed? Or, just for the fun of it, who can be romantic or have woohoo? From glancing through the tuning export, there appear to be several files involved and very difficult to understand language.
Yes, I could download an already existing mod that does whatever I want, but I won't learn from that. Unless, there's a way to view what's IN the mod package. Is there? Otherwise, how do I make sense of this stuff?

If you want to look at an exisitng mod to see how the creator set it up you can just open it like any other .package file with S4S and take a look at the tuning in the warehouse view. The only ones you can't look at with S4s are script files as they are created with Python.

So, the question still remains; how do I know what to change for any given thing, especially when multiple files are involved. I mean, how do you guys do it? I am totally lost. Am I just not cut out for it? Is there a secret manual or something? Oh! I almost forgot. Thanks for responding!

Tell me something you actually want to change and I'll see if I can assist. Being specific really helps if you want people to be able to offer advice.

Tell me something you actually want to change and I'll see if I can assist. Being specific really helps if you want people to be able to offer advice. Sure! One thing I'd like to be able to do is give CHILD sims the ability to form crushes. Ones that persist, even if the other person ages up. Perhaps with a day-limit? Like maybe a 14 day spread, so that the relationship doesn't just end. Maybe a few simple non-physical interactions like, "express fondness" or "blow kiss". Things that don't require new models. That way the game could have childhood sweethearts that eventually get married upon growing up. I think that'd be so cute. But, as it is now, they can't, and even if they did, it'd end the moment one aged into a teen. I'm aware of the First Love mod, which seems similar to what I want. But, I want to learn how to do it myself. The thing is, as I said, it's not as straight forward as the GrabDrink example covered on the site. I have no idea which tuning and/or tests to edit, or how to add these simple interactions to them. Whenever I try to load the First Love package, just to poke around, all I get are weird symbols, not XML. So, that isn't going to work. Any help or advice you have would be greatly appreciated.
