So I've had this issue for a bit where no matter what I do, I cant make custom thumbnails show in game for specific build mode objects, when I import the image on sfs it shows up and it works seemingly fine, but when I open the build mode catalog the object still shows the default game generated thumbnail. So far I'm only having this problem with objects that already had custom thumbnails and are old. An example is this object by severinka: www.thesimsresource.com/downloads/details/category/sims4-objects-furnishing-decor-clutter/title/santorini-fishes-decor/id/1343147/I have removed the original custom thumbnail both at the warehouse tab and with a batch fix which does work as the game generates a default thumbnail and the old thumbnail is gone, but the majority appear either zoomed in too much, too far away or simply don't appear in the thumbnail, that's why I decided to make new custom thumbnails myself but as I said, the thumbnail I import onto the package simply doesn't show in catalog. I have ran out of ideas, can anyone help me?

What dimensions are your thumbnails? Do you have a package that doesn't work that you can share for somebody to look at? Are you making sure to delete your localthumbcache.package after the game has generated default thumbnails?

So about the thumbnail size I export the original and then open that to make the new one, I doubt its a size issue as I've been able to change the thumbnail of an object effectively multiple times before. I don't think I have deleted the localthumbcache.package so I'll try that one out. Here's an example of a package I've tried to set up with a custom thumbnail without any luck: drive.google.com/file/d/1Clh3lezmvQxDm0F3Av8iCSgWNao5Z4Sh/view?usp=sharing

That packages doesn't contain any custom thumbnails.

I know they don't, I removed the custom thumbnail after adding it and not being able to make it show up in game. Try adding a custom thumbnail and see what happens.

Oh I see now that it was created with TSRWorkshop. That program doesn't handle thumbnails in the same way as s4s and, quite frankly, usually has issues with them. I can also see that there is a dirty texture in the package and multiple language strings that the game doesn't even use. You might be better off cloning it with s4s to create a new package that should work to the standard the game expects so that it might then generate proper thumbnails and allow you to replace them correctly.

Will cloning it break the path of the object?

I'm not sure I understand. Cloning it will just make a new copy of it. The original file will stay as it is and you will work on the new clone instead.

Yeah what I meant is, for example, if I had already used the original file in a build and just create a new copy, will the game still place the cloned object in place of the original? or will the original simply be removed altogether? Also you mentioned this was made with TSRWorkshop so would trying to apply the custom thumbnail through that program work? and lastly can I just delete the unknown unused language strings on the warehouse tab? Thanks for helping either way 🌞

So quick breakthrough, after some experimenting I found that custom thumbnails do show up in newly created swatches.

Also you mentioned this was made with TSRWorkshop so would trying to apply the custom thumbnail through that program work? and lastly can I just delete the unknown unused language strings on the warehouse tab? Thanks for helping either way 🌞 The strange phenomenon with TSRW creations is that the thumbnails are usually way too big, 256x256, and not 116x116, and you only see these wrong sizes in the Warehouse. Even though the thumbnails are predefined, they are often not displayed on the main page in Studio. If you delete all thumbnails in the warehouse view, the game still does not generate visible new ones or even generates wrong ones. And when you add a new 116x116 thumbnail, it will still not show in game. I have these problems all the time with stuff from TSR, which was created with TSRW. And often times you can't even add more swatches to those creations. It will either break or add the same swatch when trying to edit. So I actually got into the habit of cloning everything again when I download something from there. I throw the downloads into the Sims 4 Studio Mods folder and just create a new copy "selective clone" of everything. Then the unknown strings are gone too. And yes, you can delete those unknown string files in the Warehouse view. If you have already used the TSRW created object and cloning it with Studio, then you have to go into the game and replace the used one with your new copy. It will not be done automatically even if you name your new file the same way and replace it with the existing one, because Studio will renumber all files when creating a copy which means you will have either two packages of same object. Best is to rename or add "new" at the end of the description name and replace it in game. Then just delete the old file on game exit.

Thanks for helping either way 🌞 Sorry I didn't get back to you. I was away visiting family and I forgot to take my laptop charger with me. As S4Player says, the game won't automatically replace the objects this way as they will be different objects internally so they will just get removed if you delete the package from your Mods folder. I never try applying thumbnails through TSRW as it just isn't reliable enough.
Deleting the strings is fine. Sometimes I even delete known strings that are in a language my game isn't set to as it will never use them. So long as I don't plan on sharing the content.

Since the last 3-4 studio updates I have noticed that deleting unwanted strings for ur game will return after reopening the package. Which means you cannot delete unwanted strings anymore as you could before. Even that Chinese string which shows up 2 times, one with 0 KB, can not be deleted. No clue what for and why these changes were made.
