Hi. Every lod of maxis hair contains 3 meshgroups ( base shape and hat chops). 3 x 4 = 12 To make alpha hair and avoid sorting issues, one separates the areas of the hair that need transparency, adds new meshgroups for them, and assigns a different shader to them. 3 x 2 x 4 = 24 It is possible that this is a merged package with hairs for masculine and feminine frames (or children). 3 x 2 x 4 x 2 = 48
You can do things like remove the added meshgroups from lod2-3, but it is best not to, you’d need to remove them in multiple places.

What I understand is, Bottoms such as pants have 3 parts to be compatible with any boots, then you got to state in Region Map if you want to boots to go ontop or under the clothing. Toddlers have 4 parts which no big deal, just another part to deal with.
Although why more than 1 part for tops puzzles me, I get away with just 1 part, but meshes like ymTop_Pajamas has 7 parts.

Op is asking about a specific hair package. but to clear some things up: 1). Bottoms are made from 3-4 meshgroups, the difference is in length. If they go below ankles, they must be affected by foot bones and have a separate meshgroup for that area; 2). Tops are made of multiple parts to hide accessories. This is done to prevent necklaces and bracelets from clipping into tops.
