So, I'm interested in starting to create my own mod for the Sims 4, I took a beginner course in C++ and Python 3(though I may take the intermediate course later). I wrote down notes and printed cheat sheets in case I forget certain elements of each. I have many ideas on what I want to make, but it's hard for me to wrap my mind around how to make it possible, because I look on here and there's so many tools. And I'm wondering do I need all of them to make the mod I want, with the mod constructor, xml extractor, sims4studios of course, tdesc , along with the pycharm + python downloads. The first mod that I want to make is a wedding dress shop followed by a wedding cake shop and later on other shops, I also want to make another titled function in the dropdown menu on the sims rather than having it be a retail shop, it would be specific and come along with specific buffs for each, as well as a wedding shop. I want shops where you can buy and make there with it saying Wedding Shop, like how we can make cafes and restaurants and have specific requirements to fill out. I also want to make shops that I can just place and make a npc/s for the shop and be able to assign other sims to the shop in case they want playable sims already in the game instead of an npc. Right now, in mind this is the simplest mod that I want to make, but then I realized it would be a lot of work to get it the way I picture it. I'd also like to make icons for my buffs and later on traits.
So do I need tdesc and xml extractor as well?

Hi. I also watched an introductory course to python and the only outcome was me realizing that this information is not particularly relevant to what I’m trying to accomplish in ts4. It is not useless for ts4, of course, but we chose the wrong thing to start from. You should start from modding tutorials for the sims 4 specifically and follow the step-by-step, even if they cover something you don’t need. They will give you a much better idea of how things work in ts4 than python or xml courses. And these tutorials(introduction to modding) will explain if you need aforementioned tools and what for

Does it matter what version of python and pycharm I download? Should I just stick to the ones for getting started with python scripting?

And is there a specific place to put all these files for xml, tdesc, s4s, mod constructor, the projectfolder for the tutorial? Because right now I have everything in my electronic arts folder which is in my documents.

the introductory tutorials generally explain the best way to sort things and what version of programs you should use This one, for example, does it in great details levelup.gitconnected.com/the-sims-4-modern-python-modding-part-1-setup-83d1a100c5f6You can start with this while you still remember everything from the python course, but, again, this is not really what you need to do the dress/cake shop thing, for example There is another introductory series of tutorials that touches upon all those other programs simsvip.com/category/the-sims-4/how-to-create-a-mod/that said, it is best to keep all those files away from ts4/s4s folder and, if possible, away from the c drive

Is this still good to use?

I've been on the set up for python for days for the sims 4 modern python modding link. I think I'm just going to delete everything I had to download and try again with the one on here, because I'm really confused, one of the commands I put in didn't do anything, and I'm unsure about going forwar dwith that tutorial.
I'm almost done with the python script tutorial on s4s, but when I click run compile on my compile.py file I get FileNotFoundError.

Some popular in ts4 community modders have their own discords where you can find tutorials and receive help/critique from people knowledgeable on this subject. We no longer have regulars who are and could be of help with that. Here's one of them, deadpool and zebru have them as well if im not mistaken

sims4studio.com/thread/15145/started-python-scripting is one way to setup PyCharm properly. If you use chocolatey.org/ installing the proper versions is easy: * choco install python3 --version 3.7 * choco pin add -n python3 * choco install pycharm-community I use a library which allows to access sim/object properties without the need to mess with the internal TS4 classes. This makes writing mods more easy and mods quite stable.
