Hi, I have a problem that I'm sure is Blender based, I have googled and checked the Blender site and found lots of answers but none have worked, I have re read the tuts on here about vertex painting in case it was a daft setting thing but my settings look no different to Orangemittens. I'm hoping someone here can shed some light for me. No matter what blend file I try I cannot use the vertex paint, it sometimes catches a random corner but thats it. I've tried changing the settings, adding a material slot, using different brushes, subdividing to create more vertices but still nothing. I have a couple of plans for small candles but without being able to blend them darker at the bottom they will not look good. So far I have been using the paint 'set vertex colours' but that is very limited for creating candles and even other things that I might want to create a glow effect. Is this a Blender problem I can solve or should I just uninstall and do a fresh install? The only reason I havnt already is that I have no clue how I got it set up the way it is, its perfect apart from the paint problem.

When you export a .blend from Studio it has all the settings pre-set for Sims 4 meshing. I would try de-installing and reinstalling Blender. If that doesn't work, could you post the .blend that isn't functioning properly? Also, which version of Blender do you have and what OS are you running? Also, vertex paint only applies when your mouse is over a vertex (which you probably already know).

Thanks OM, I would post a blend but it really is all of them, even the default cube won't play. I use the paint a lot especially with the fish tanks so its a mystery why its suddenly not working. I'm running Blender 2.70 and windows 10 (grrr!) I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and completely reinstall Blender

I agree with Asyli. Blender can be funny and each version is different. It sounds like Blender's vertex paint used to work for you and has now stopped working. Can you identify any specific event on your computer that may have triggered Blender's non-function? I've noted that some people complained about issues running 2.78 on a Win10 OS. I wonder if this could be a similar kind of problem.

To be honest I thought I had to stick to 2.70 so this is good news I can't think of anything in particular, W10 updates all the time so it could be that? I saw a lot of questions in the Blender forum about the paint not working but most were directed at rendering which is something I seem to pass by. The texture paint had also stopped working but last night it was fine. I didn't need it of course I was just testing it. vertex paint is still not working. I think I will try Asylis advice and try 2.76. It will mean I have to work out how to get the perfect set up again but this time I am going to make a note of it, as its not something I do with any forethought at the time. Thank you both, I will report back with results

I know Kiara posted about this problem some time ago too. I don't know if she was able to solve it out. But I'm tagging in case she did.

Thank you ladies! :D I installed 2.78c and everything works yippee! I have lost my screen cast keys and navigation add ons because I was too silly to save them but its working like a dream. It does seem to be a problem with the older versions Mathcope so tagging is a good idea, I looked here but didn't find the same problem which is why I posted this. Maybe a complete clear out and reinstall of 2.70 would have worked but I have new shiney things to play with now so its all good

Excellent! I'm glad you got this working. My next suggestion would have been to make sure your video card drivers were updated to match Win 10 updates but now the issue is already solved

Yeah I had to just switch to a newer version as well. I actually still use the old version but the newer one for vertex painting
