Hi! I have a quick question about package sizes. I just started working on a male clothing top again I was previously working on. It had around 9 swatches, but the size of the package was really big already (around 3,5MB I think?). I added another 4 swatches and suddenly the package was over 5,5MB, which is huge in my opinion, especially seeing that a lot of the CC pieces I have in my game have even more swatches than that (20 for example), but are only around 2MB, so that's a huge difference.
Now I tried looking into what could have caused this, like the image dimensions. However, the image dimension of my top is the same as the EA standard, so that's 1024x2048. Other packages in my game use these sizes as well. I then looked at the image size. The PNG images I used for the swatches were all around 1MB, some a bit lower than that. Obviously this can cause a package to be a lot larger, so I looked into compressing my PNGs. I found a website were I could do this, so I compressed them and with compressing the images, I kept the quality, but the image size was a lot smaller! I went from the biggest being over 1MB to now only 500kb. The smallest is even 130kb. My package size went from 5,50MB to 3,90MB with 13 swatches. But in my opinion, that's still way too big, since I have packages in my game that have 20 swatches but are only 2MB.
Now I looked at the Warehouse tab in S4S. That's where I noticed something strange. My first swatch's original texture is 208KB. But in the Warehouse tab, it says the RLE 2 Image is 2,2MB! Almost every other RLE 2 Image is the same, almost all of them are 2,2MB, with only 2 of them being 200kb and one 600kb.
I compared this to the other package with the 20 swatches. All of their RLE 2 Images are 300kb. So my question is, what causes this? I'm pretty sure this is what causes my package to have this huge file size and it's really bothering me. I want my packages to not take up too much space and since it's clearly possible to have smaller packages (seeing as I have plenty of them in my game from other people), I'm wondering if there's any way I could prevent the RLE 2 Image size to be this big?
Phew, that was a lot longer than I wanted it to be lol. But I hope someone here knows what I can do about this. I'm using S4S studio 3.1.0.1 Wishes, if that could make the difference!
