This has been one of my most popular downloads on other sites and I'm making it available again here.
Shown above on the left is the default piano, and my recolor on the right. My complete public library of mods is available on NexusMods.
----------------
Catalog: Entertainment/Activity, Venue/Arts Center, Venue/Lounge, Venue/Star Garden Price: 1 Simolean Swatches: Black only
I've always wanted to get rid of the flowery ornamentation of the Classical Genius Piano. My previously published recolors were just that, recolors of the existing default texture.
This time around, not only did I double the resolution, but in removing the ornamental trim, I discovered profound errors in the default object's DST files (both its specular and bump map DSTs). The specular map was unnecessarily grainy. The bump map DST, which gives the illusion of ridges and depth, had a shattered-mirror effect if examined at particular lighting angles (see photos) which I can only attribute to someone at EA hand-editing the DST and not realizing the reflective errors they were creating.
The specular map is now double the resolution and not nearly as grainy, and I flattened the bump map DST (not everywhere, just in the worst-affected areas).
Also disappointing about the default object the were the red-green color banding, most noticeable on the default black swatch on the piano's lid and music rack, as well as the overall graininess, which was EA's over-zealous use of dithering and low-resolution textures (back in the day when conservation of computing resources were more important).
I've applied a texture overlay to the seat cushion, a metal overlay to the pedals, and changed out the music sheet. The music sheet comprises such a small area of the object's overall texture that to get it high-resolution would have required either multiple texture maps or a really huge single map.
The overall effect, after having removed the flower images on the ornamental trim and fixing the DST files produces a nice, simple, elegant appearance.
Enjoy!

Paint me weird, but I just really don't like facial hair on my sims. This is an overhaul of my previous "fewer beards" override that now includes the latest skin tone / hair changes. I don't have Seasons and some other content, so that's why this isn't called "no beards" because I can't override what I don't own.
The override not only prevents random generation of beards in the game, but makes them unavailable in CAS as well, so if you don't like that, don't download.
The main download removes 29 beard styles. If you'd rather pick and choose individual styles, can you download them here.
Beards on default/pre-built sims will still appear until you run them through CAS.
A beard may appear the first time entering CAS when creating a new character because there is no check against beard categorizations (any categorizations) when a pre-made Sim is loaded. Subsequent clicks on the "random" button or clicking the beardless face will permanently remove the beard from that Sim.
Updated 1/26/22 to eliminate:
ymFacialHair_EF90_BeardCurlyTight (base game)
ymFacialHair_EP09_BeardMedium (Eco Living)

Updates -- this is my all-in-one for all of the beards (that I have game content for) and I took down all of the individual ones and updated them. Now the only people who'll have beards, and not randomly either, are elderly female mermaids from Batuu.

You might be right. I'll try that. I was bored and recreated all the packages, if you need them. Too late, I just did, but thanks.

I organize things by price. For example, all items from a given creator off of TSR I put at a unique price, and then all of that creator's stuff winds up together. Most creators use round numbers for prices, so I update prices for groups of their things to be 297, 298, 296, etc., avoiding 0's and 5's.

I previously had an override package set up to remove as much as possible beards from my game. While in CAS, no beards would randomly appear, and no beards would be selectable from any category (other than elder). Today I noticed that it's not working at all, so I went through and stripped out more categories, but beards still show up.
This is the complete set of beard overrides.
These have worked for years, but now, nothing, not even base-game overrides work. Any idea what may have changed? The only thing I can think of are the recent updates to skin and hair.
Somehow, the game is just flat out ignoring any re-categorization of beards.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

I've updated my Shallot painting template (a LibreOffice drawing file located on Nexus). In addition to my original picture frames, the updated Shallot template now includes several matte overlays. Remember, this is a template file, not actual sims objects. I've placed what the template can create in-game for viewing purposes only. Enjoy!

Short answer, you're probably okay.
I'm a writer, and copyright and brand marketing issues are real concerns, but we've had over a century of writers including trademarked content not their own in their stories, and they're not being hounded by corporate lawyers.
A good friend of mine is writing an excellent coming-of-age story of a young boy growing up in the 1930's, and that story is absolutely dripping with brand name references of products of the age, some of which are still marketed today by their respective companies.
Here's a test to determine the likelihood of getting a DMCA takedown notice, and they're standard questions regarding fair use laws:
1. Monetization: Is your creation containing a corporate brand name in a $ marketplace? Are you demanding money for people to acquire it? 2. Brand confusion: Is it likely that your creation will be confused in ANY marketplace with the actual product? 3. Presentation: How many people will actually see it?
Answers: 1. Don't do it. 2. Not likely. 3. Not dire. It's not on tv commercials, plastered on highway billboards, or in news articles. It's hanging on a wall in some sims4 player's house.
Corporations have a direct motivation to pursue people using their brands in an unauthorized way. That pursuit demonstrates the corporation's desire (in a legal setting) to actively keep their intellectual property out of public domain. Corporations in the past have lost branding lawsuits for failing to show their earnestness in defending their brands and intellectual property. One of the more famous ones involving literature is Tolkien's family losing control of the word "orc" in a lawsuit because they failed over the course of so many decades to demonstrate they were actively protecting his work from falling into public domain.
Regarding corporations, Disney is far more fervent than Electrolux (owner of Frigidaire) which is far more fervent than Jordache in flattening people using their product without prior permission.
For my writing endeavors, part of the traditional publishing process involves moving your story through a sequence or pipeline of editors, and along that pipeline is the brand editor, who'll flag (for the publisher's own self protection) any inappropriate use long before they shove anything onto the shelves, so when I get to that point, I've a safety net in that regard.
If you're still concerned, flip a couple letters in the brand name and alter the logo just enough so that it may be reminiscent of, but no longer a direct reference to, trademarked material, which will get you out of any brand confusion trap.

I don't mod skin tones, but back up and explain what you did and maybe the experts can pile on and give you some advice.
