Hi there,
I'm trying to figure out how to export a rig so I can put it into a different recolor of the same item..
However, I export the rigs, go to import it into the new mesh (same item) and it's just the default one. I closed s4studio and reopened and it's still the same.

Hi! I believe you're mixing up the concepts. rig is the body armature, what you are talking about is the geometry called mesh.
I've personally never tried that, have you tried cloning the item you want and importing the textures of the recolor instead?

OH! Okay. You export it from the warehouse from the original mesh to your mesh. Save the package and re open the it. The change doesn't show up instantly. Can you try that?

I did this several times, I exported the slots to a .binary file and imported it into another file, and it has a lot of empty things with no names? but nothing shows up in the slot area and here's the file: eacolors.package

Can you share both packages? The original you're taking the slots from and the one you want to have them.

Yeap.. the exporting/importing isn't working for me either. Looks like it might be missing to export most of the names for some reason. I've tried checking on the report section for wishes and haven't seen anyone talking about this. I'm tagging orangemittens in case she has heard something about this. Thanks for sharing the files. What i can suggest as a work around, is: - open the base package, head over to the warehouse. - Select the slot string and click "batch export". This will export the whole string. - open your recolors package, head over to the warehouse to select the slot string from that and press the delete button from the bottom of the window. - use the "batch import" to import the slot string from the base package. - Now you have to redirect package so that it reads the new slot string. - Select the new slot, and copy the instance number. Then "object definition", scroll until you see "slot". Edit items, and change it by pasting the new instance number. I suggest you do this with only one swatch. If you have more than one swatch already, then you'd have to change all the instance numbers of all object definitions. Let me know if there's something that isn't clear.

I just tested Wishes to be sure there is no problem with rig/slot import/export and I'm not seeing any issue. Wishes and Harmony have identical code for this so the process should be working fine for both.
If you want to use the slots of one item for another, you need to be sure that you are including the corresponding rig resource as well. These two resources are paired and you need both for slots to work. You will need to export them one at a time and then import them into the new package one at a time. The model viewer (and the Warehouse list for that matter) may not update until you close out of the package and reopen it so that Studio registers the changes you made.
If the only resource you imported into the package is the slot resource, Studio will not have names for the slots under most circumstances because the slot names are stored in the rig. The illustration above appears to be the result of importing only the slot resource.

Man this sounds a lot more intimidating than I thought it would be. What i'll probably do is include the EA colors in my recolors package, just to make it easier. Thanks for you help guys... Next time I might do it side by side and add slot by slot

I'm not sure I'm understanding your project.. by cloning an EA item the slots are already there.. then you import your textures.

It really isn't difficult. Instead of exporting one resource (the slot) you export two (the rig and slot). Once you've exported them both, you just import those into your package in the Warehouse. And, like inabadromance said, I'm having a tough time visualizing what your project involves. If you're making a recolor alone, there shouldn't be any slotting involved.

OHMYPLUMBOB what orangemittens is saying is that the slot and rig files are related. All the slots are named within the rig file itself. If you export the slot file alone and re import it into a new object, what you will have is a slot resource that has no corresponding names to it. In other not to have your situation, when you export a slot file, you must also export the rig file also for that object. Now if you open the new object that you want to import into, you must have to import both the exported slot and rig file into your object. Then save your object go out of studio and when you open your object, you will notice the changes that you made. But having read all you said, if you are making a recolor, what do you need the slot file for.
