So, I'm following this tutorial by orangemittens on how to make a lamp that lights properly. In it, she refers to vertex painting parts of the mesh with different colors to represent which parts of the lamp would be brightened when the lamp is turned on in-game. So I went ahead and made this wall sign, but I found that I can't fully vertex paint some parts of the mesh? I've tried seeking help online (absolute beginner in Blender here), but couldn't find anything useful. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

In edit mode click on the shading/UVs tab and recalculate normals. Post again if you dont follow (I just tried it and it worked)

Nope... tried it and still the same results. I tried it with another EA lamp mesh and it didn't work as well - only some parts were paintable.

Nope... did exactly as you said. Selected the whole mesh, recalculated normals (which flipped two of the faces), then tried repainting as you did. Still only able to paint a few parts with the entire mesh selected even in vertex paint mode.
EDIT: Apparently, it's a problem with Blender. I uninstalled and reinstalled it, that seems to have solved the problem.
