Hi! Very new to meshing and not terribly experienced with Blender. I'm having an issue where this boot looks totally fine in Blender and in S4S (version 3.1.1.9, Wishes), but has a tiny visible gap between the top and bottom parts in game. I've used the Snap setting in Blender 2.70 to make sure the vertices line up, and the weights are transferred from the basegame cowboy boots. These parts are two separate meshes, so merging the vertices is not an option. I don't see the option to attach a file, or I would add my .blend file. How can I do that? Any help is greatly appreciated! EDIT: Turns out I can juuuust barely see the seam in S4S, but I'm not sure how important that is.

Looks like that's just where the meshes don't intersect fully. I managed to fix something similar on my own project by extruding the upper mesh slightly so they touched. Is this possible? Although mine was an object, rather than something that moves with the sim, so that may have an effect on whether that fix works.

I was thinking of either doing that, or maybe closing the holes in the top of the lower part of the boot and on the underside of the top part so it would camouflage the separation at any angle. I'll continue testing, but I'm still hoping someone might have a non-kludgy solution. The perfectionist in me is always worried that I'm not following best practices! EDIT: Closing the holes makes it worse. 😬 I'll try your suggestion next!

Because if you could find a base mesh which used only one mesh you could merge the vertices together, that's probably the best practice. Also I definitely recommend uploading your .blend file so someone here who is more experienced can take a look! All of the basegame boots of that height have two separated meshes, so I assume it's for a reason and don't want to break with the game's way of doing it. Good news though! Your extruding suggestion worked. I can't see any seams in-game now! The one minor issue is that the specular texture appears broken at certain angles for some reason. (The diffuse texture looks fine.) I can live with that, though. For future reference, how do I upload my .blend file?

The boots are split like that so that the game is able to make skin tight bottoms tuck in and loose bottoms go over the top. Basically if a Sim is wearing wider trousers then the game hides the top part of the boot. If you made them as a single mesh then the game wouldn't be able to hide the top parts so they would more than likely stick through the trouser legs instead.
To upload a .blend you need to upload it somewhere like oneDrive or SimFileShare and then paste the link in these forums. Files aren't actually hosted here.
