hello everyone:) I was just really close to finishing my alpha hair based on original hair mesh from the game- i made it by cutting clay hair into stripes and filling empty spaces by with stripes that i duplicated. It seemed like everything was fine, without transparency it looked like this: Then when i changed shading to simglass it turned into this: (i noticed that the parts that were glithing were only faces that I extruded with blender, instead of making it out of mesh I got. can it be something with vertex/weight paint? I didn't do that cause I didn't think it was necessary since all mesh was based on the other one, but maybe it doesn't work on extruded parts?) Sadly, that wasn't the end of problems. when I duplicated whole mesh and selected "flip direction"- to make the faces double-sided like in the 1st pic, it turned out even worse: Do anyone know what may be causing the problem? I really don't wanna give up on this hair for I already spent few weeks on mesh, and struggling with other problems since I'm new to working in Blender and it's actually my first bigger project x-x

it depends on how the mesh was made. EA meshes are generally not compatible with the simglass shader, thus you should opt for creating your own mesh and then your own texture. the problem with seeing strands through strands is because of a sorting issue which can be solved with this tutorial if the mesh was made with planes. the issue where you can see the outline of the head is because of how the backfaces are arranged on the front faces which can be fixed in this tutorial at step 9.

Thank you, I didn't know there would be problem with shader, since it's EA mesh, I just realy wanted to make it a replacement of a hair I didn't like. I've seen your tutorial, I had it open during whole process of creating it xD Sadly I couldn't follow it step by step, cause I'm using only Blender- I was just lookimg for my own methods, but i guess I'm just not too good at it x-x yes, it's all made of planes (I meant it by "faces", my bad). I'll try to find out how to follow tutorial with sorting issue in Blender, and see if I'll get this. For now I've got a question about that step 9- is this the right thing that I duplicated the whole mesh and flipped the new one- "under" the first one? this is just what I did, I didn't scale it by .999 though, is this what may be causing the problem? I kinda don't wanna use other programs for I already feel safe working in Blender, even if Milkshape is free (?). Also, if I got to the second tutorial would it be better to do that with save that doesn't have these flipped normals, and do that step in the end, or it just doesn't matter?

it depends on the order you merge them i believe. you need to select the back faces and then the front faces and join them together. it's either in that order or the opposite. the only reason you scale it by .999 is because when it's in the exact same position it can sometimes create a shadow on the mesh

Maybe stupid question, but why do I need to join them, and how do I do that? I just got confused, is it about merging it? cause once I was editing someobody's mesh (for my own use) I noticed that front and back faces were actually separated, I had to select them by wireframe to not mess it up

well you could if you wanted to, you'd just have to create an extra cut for those backfaces.

Hey, it's me again, I just wanna thank you for your patience, I have to admit that I didn't pay attention about in what order front and back faces should be added (I thought it's a thing only for Milkshape), also the other tutorial was very helpful, it seems like everything works now as it should:) Didn't even had any idea that the order of planes is so important, thanks!
