Introduction
To follow this tutorial you will need to look at my other footprint tutorial: How to get a visualization of an object's footprint
This tutorial will show you how to edit an object's footprint using Sims 4 Studio, and Blender.
The tutorial has several steps because every detail is covered and illustrated but this should make it easy to follow along. If you have questions or comments about the tutorial please post them in the thread along with the number of the step you're discussing.
This tutorial will not show you how to create a new footprint, all it will do is show you how to edit an object's footprint. For further help getting started please see the Build/Buy/Tuning tutorial list.
What you will need
Sims 4 Studio
Blender 2.70

Preparation In this tutorial we will start in Blender. If you followed the previous tutorial you should see something similar to following picture. This is the pathing footprint of the gazebo that came with the Romantic Gardens SP.
Step 1. The orientation of the imported point list is mirrored across the "X" axis. The first thing we are going to do is to mirror it so that it is the correct visual orientation. With the footprint selected hit CTRL+M. Blender will ask for a direction, choose "Y"
Step 2. Un-hide the object so you can see how the original footprint fits with the current mesh. Spirashun made a modified version of the gazebo (get it HERE) so the original won't work.
Step 3. Edit the shape of the footprint for a better fit, adding, moving and removing vertices.
Step 4. After doing modifications to the footprint, re-hide the object so its out of the way.
Step 5. Mirror the footprint across the "X" axis again.
Step 6. At this point open S4S (unless it already is) and go into the Warehouse, select the footprint resource, and click the Edit Items button next to Object Polygons. In the next pop-up select the point list you want to modify. On the right side scroll down and click the Edit Items button next to PointList.
Step 7. This is where you will edit the actual footprint shape. You'll need to go back and forth between Blender and S4S. Going around the shape (follow the line) copy the coordinates of the points from Blender and paste them into the list in S4S (X=X, Y=Z). If your project does not have enough (or too many) points click the Add (or Remove) button at the bottom of the list.
Click the Save button at the bottom when you have finished. You have successfully edited a footprint shape! |
