Hey guys, I'm making another hair from scratch, and this one is really high poly since it has a lot of hair strands. I thought a way of lowering them, but I don't know how to do something like it. I'd like to make something like this, when I have this mess right here. Thanks in advance to everyone.

You seem to misunderstand what you're seeing on the first pic ( or i misunderstand what you mean ) This is just a "cap" that is covering a hole. It will increase the polycount and there isn't really a need in creating it since it will not be visible anyway You can use Decimate modifier to lower the polycount ( change ratio ), but if it does not go past 20000, i wouldn't worry about it

What I'd like is to merge all the ends of the hair strands that are inside of the head to get rid of all those polys that are not visible. Also the decimate modifier messes up the whole UV mapping...

You can select everything ( A ), Select - Select boundary loop, and if it selects only the "root" of every strand, then press Alt M - Collapse or At Center. If not, enable sync, press B and select roots yourself like this. Grow or shrink the selection with Select - Select More/Less
