Hey there! So I make hair mods very often. Most I've been making lately have been shoulder length because the texture I use is the colorful ombre texture from the Back Yard Stuff pack. I do this because my main character has the teal to white ombre. I have a mod from a simmer on Tumblr who created an ombre as an accessory that could overlay the specific hair it correlated with. (As seen in my profile pic.) I was wondering if anyone knew how to do that because I've made some pretty sick long hair mods that I'd love my character to wear but her signature is the teal to white ombre. Please help! Thank you

Hi! I'm assuming it's a mesh-leads accessory with the hair texture. example: clone the bg gloves and import the hair texture. it'll override the hair. you could also clone any makeup item and did just the same. if the texture for x reason doesn't overlap it then you might need to change the sort layer: sims4studio.com/thread/2310/cas-sort-layer.

I know the ombre itself will be hair specific (fits only one hair mesh per ombre pack I make). So when I use a bg accessory/make up slot/etc (i'll be using a facepaint slot probably) do I delete the mesh and just insert my wanted texture? That whole process is something I have no idea on how to go about it. *If it would help to add a download link to the specific hair i'm working with, I can provide it upon request.

"accessories" such as makeup or gloves don't have any mesh, no geometry. so you import the textures and that's it .

Lastly, one more question and then I think i've got it.
I want the ombres to overlay any bg hair color. Is there a way to make part of the texture transparent? (For Example: If I wanted to use the bg black hair color and then click on one of the 20 options of ombres ill have for the ombre overlay pack, I could.)
It's probably just the matter of deleting part of the mesh, but I just want to be sure. I haven't tried to make an overlaying, mod such as this, before.
*I use photoshop cc for recolors.

for the transparency, if you use png then you simply delete part of the texture from the layer. if you use dds, then transparency is controlled through the alpha channel in the layers tab.
to my knowledge, that isn't possible. you're overlapping textures not overlaying them with an effect. if you import a plain pink texture and it will overlap as pink plain texture. hairs are mapped differently, therefore strands appear differently. if you don't understand what I'm saying then I suggest you actually try doing it and see the outcome.

At this point I just don't know what to do anymore. I've tried everything.

UPDATE: I've been messing with this for just about the entire day. But gloves do have meshes. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Any further help or a demonstration would be greatly appreciated. And thank you for putting up with me.

In CAS the texture isn't showing up. I made sure the sort layer matched up with the hair. So I'm just completely lost. Here's what I see when putting everything together. I haven't imported a mesh but there is a mesh to export. I don't know why since there isn't supposed to be one.? Here's the hair I want the ombre pack to overlay: Juliet HairAnd this is the Overlay testing package i've been working with: Ombre Testing

Regarding gloves having a mesh. That mesh is a tiny triangle hidden inside a body. The reason why it is made that way is that gloves have normal map, and normal map resource is tied to the mesh. Therefore, gloves technically have mesh, but it it is not visible due to its shape and position.

The sort layer didn't change anything. (I changed it from 12000 to 11000.) Unfortunately nothing is showing up still.
I appreciate the help, y'all are giving me.
I just really don't know what to do anymore. I've been researching for this little project for days and I still haven't found a good solution. :(
