Long story short.. I bought a small marimo yesterday (it's a type of algae that grows in Japan and looks like a fluffy ball, and you keep it in a fish bowl and it will last 100+ years). Cute!
Now I thought it would be cool if my sims could have one too..
Hence the maybe crazy idea. Is it possible to replace the mesh of a fish i do not care about in game, with a mesh of a fluffy ball?
I attempted this the same way you do for accessories etc..
Import the mesh, transfer weights. For the cut, the fish actually had NONE and 0, so I just did the same for my ball. I then removed the fish.. saved, etc.
However when I import it, it says "Your mesh studio has a vertex Group b_head_ that is not part of the mesh u are replacing.
Since I just transfered weights the way u do for other stuff, I'm not sure what this means.
I'm also not sure it would work the same way as a fish.
TL:DR = Is there a tutorial or does any1 know if it's possible to replace an animated object such a fish with a mesh of a shape you like, and keep it working as if it was a fish?
Thanks ^^

Hi hi! the object you are talking about don't have weights, not sure from where you're transferring weights from. open S4S, tick "selective clone" and be sure it says not to renumber. chick debug and lol for fish in the search bar. export the mesh and append the one you want checking meshgroup/cut just like any other object.

I have replaced fish before, and it can be done, as catchable fish. However, to have the fish in the bowl isn't as easy as it sounds, I will test out my versions in bowls - I have never done that and think someone said there was an issue with it.

I'm pretty sure (after a recent project with an aquarium I've been working) the fish that you see inside the bowls (and the aquariums) are visual effects. Each fish has certain FX linked to it that get triggered when you put that fish in a bowl. The issue is that you can't replace the mesh of a game's FX (as far as I know) However I only recently started discovering and playing around with them, so I could be wrong. Maybe minimonster can take a look and give us his input, since he has helped me a lot with my project in the past and seems to be very knowledgeable about this subject.

Thanks people! You may be right. After doing what inabadromance suggested (thanks!) I properly swapped the fish and ball! However now this happens: imgur.com/a/QxbIceFWhen I move it around, it's the ball, but when I set it on the ground, it's the fish again, and same inside the aquarium. As for the bowl, you can't put that there sadly :( But I will look if there's a bowl that allows fished fish to be put inside. Not sure what to do now XD I saw in the debug of Sims4 studio that there were different versions of this "Tambaqui" (the fish I used) in different poses. Should I replace all those too? Would that work? EDIT: the first part works when I replaced the mesh of the laying down fish. All that's left is indeed the one inside the aquarium which still looks like a fish >_<
