So I made some cabinets. The lowers look great. I went to make the uppers and for some reason they look so much darker than the lowers. I can't figure out why! I thought it was the alpha or something but I have modifed the base and alpha multiple times and nothing seems to get it lighter. The uppers seem to appear much darker. Any thoughts?? Also, side note. I cant seem to edit the thumbnails on anything besides the LOD1. Not a huge deal, but any ideas on this too? Link to files: drive.google.com/open?id=1o2O5ibBRCXGqR7eKD1Wu7J9a3t596pVW

Because shelving cabinet units use the same functionality as counters for the auto placement you will need to use the Selective Clone option in S4Studio and make sure you tick the Use 32-bit Instance option for the thumbnails to work. The game can't number them properly otherwise.
I've not looked at your actual files yet as I'm just off to bed but what shaders are your cabinets using? The Counter shader applies different lighting to other shaders so the colours won't look the same in game even if the texture colours are identical.

menaceman44 always a homie helping me out. Yea, after doing some more research I think it is the shaders. I am going to try that now. I dont get why they would be different, but oh well. Also, I tried the 32-bit instances off an on. Either way I can only modify the first LOD. If I go to the second LOD and change that thumbnail, it makes it the same for all of them. I will give it another go.

Okay, here's how to get custom thumbnails for all of your different counter and cabinet meshes. First of all, your counters are fine but you MUST go and make a 32-bit instance version of your cabinet or it won't work.
Before you load up your game, go to your Sim 4 folder in your documents and move the localthumbcache.package file to your desktop. This file contains all of the thumbnails the game has generated for CC (and Sim profile images). It is actually safe to delete but it will mean your game will have to generate the thumbs all over again so just move it for now and then you can put it back again after we are done.
Start up your game and find your counters in the catalogue. You can do this all in one go but it will probably be less confusing if you do it one item at a time. So lets say you find your counter designed to go against walls. Click on the swatches to open the Auto-counter tool and then hover your mouse cursor over each icon for each different piece so that a preview shows up. Do this for each colour option. Once you've done that you can close your game.
Go back to your documents folder and find the new localthumbcache.package file the game has made. Open it with Studio and it will have all of the thumbnails for your counter. It might have Sim portaits in there as well. Delete everything that ISN'T a picture of your counter.
Select the remaining contents and select the Batch Export button. Don't change the file name but choose the save location as somewhere you can get to easily. I'd probably make a new folder especially for it on your desktop. You can close the file then. No need to save.
Now open your counter package and choose the Batch Import option on the warehouse screen. Select all of the thumbnails that you just exported and then select Open. They will now all be added to your package. You can now edit them as you normally would. You just need to import the files to the warehouse tab instead of the normal 3D view tab.
You can then repeat these steps for your island counter and your cabinet (once you have a 32-bit version). Delete the localthumbcache.package file between each time you run the game so that you only get CC thumbnails for your current object.
Hopefully I've explained that well enough, let me know if not.

Thank you!! I will do this now. You are wonderful. It has been driving me crazy. I was just about to upload it with just the main thumbail (everytime sims loaded it would still generate the thumbs for the other lods but wouldn't have the overlay).
Also I figured out the coloring issue. It was wayyyyy deep in the settings. The alpha map was pointing to the spec map that was for the first 3 LODs, not even to it's own spec map.
